Courage If You Will; Yourself, Be Kind - a Poem
"Courage If You Will; Yourself, Be Kind"
You’ve given up strength, already you’re weak
You hide in the darkest shadows, already you’re veiled of fear
You’d want to aim for it, but anxious it is a trick
It’s there for you but you won’t even get near.
Your heart is a grenade, heat intensifies
Far beyond the horizon, nothing is aligned
Your rumblings old and new, a costly vise
Courage if you will; Yourself, be kind.
You’ve given up early, a race withdrawn in a hurry
Silently, you retreated from saving a war
You condemned yourself before a jury
A shadow of doubt is greater than a scar.
Your style, your talents, desires mastered
But you close doors to praises and critics combined
A promise, a dream ‘til your glow receded
Courage if you will; Yourself, be kind.
You want to be carried, already you are small
Walk the paths of rocks and mud, stumble and rise
Polish your rustic bones, straighten them tall
It’s in your eyes to seize, outshine, and be wise.
Life’s a labyrinth, a chamber, a maze
Restless to be free, to survive, doubts buried behind
You feared not, faced the storm, won a race
By God’s illuminating grace you survived.
Courage you had; Yourself, you had been kind.
