The Courage of Nurses

Updated on September 15, 2014

The Courage of Nurses - Poems for the Caregivers

Nurses are courageous and do many of the tasks that the rest of us don't have the stomach or stamina for. This lens honors all the hardworking nurses with an original sonnet and other original poems about nurses.

-----

Their bravery may not be noticed

As they go about their tasks

Yet reward is oft remotest

When one who's suffering asks

Poems for Nurses in this Lens

Humble though nurses be

Here's my list of poetry

Sonnet for an Army Nurse

A Nurse On the Home Front

The Hospital Nurse

Nursing on the Battlefield

The books below are about the courage of nurses on the battlefield

Sonnet for an Army Nurse

Tender is the heart that makes room for me

As thou art fulfilled caring for the lame

Doubly blessed am I to be loved by thee

A lover, a nurse, a soul without blame

Hours holding hands of those so injured

By the battles raging beyond these gates

In love with all soldiers thou art inured

Healing those thou canst, perhaps cheating fates

I, the officer, urge their noble fight

To protect our nation from evil men

Yet thou wouldst tend to our enemy's plight

When brought bloodied to this hospital tent

No fault is there to lay upon thy stead

For all suffering doth cause tears to shed

A Nurse On the Home Front

Walking through the sterile wards

My dedication keeps me centered

I give comfort as time accords

While colleagues keep me mentored

Past families sitting round the bed

Of they who may not make it through

I focus on what I can do instead

To cheer the outlook away from blue

Along with the doctors, I minister

Give medications and fill out charts

Relentlessly battling diseases so sinister

Mending crumpled bodies with strong hearts

Oh the training prepared me some

For all I witness and all I still learn

So should a nurse you want to become

You'll be much rewarded in return

The Hospital Nurse

She walks the wards on her 12 hour shift

Thankful for her comfortable shoes

Too busy with patients to let her mind drift

Charting, bathing and giving the families news

She changes the IVs and also soiled sheets

For her charges during their hospital stay

Tries hard to show a smile to those she meets

Fighting her tiredness through the long day

Honor and Respect the Nurses of the World

Honor the Nurse Around the Home

Here are items that honor the special nurse in your life at home

Very inspiring poems. Indeed, our chosen profession is noble and done out of passion.
