Dark Souls 2 How to Use Hex Spells
In dark souls 2, the hero will have to know how to use hex spells. Hexes or hex spells are relatively new but an integral role part of the world of Drangleic. Hexes are not really sorcery spells. There are similarities but the hexes spells are part intelligence and part faith, and some of the hexes spells are devious and can be used to great evil intents to achieve victory for the hero. This will guide the hero on where to get the hex spells, how they perform and how to use the hex spells.
Dark Souls 2 Dark Projectile Spells
The most standard spell to use in dark souls 2 are the dark projectile spells. These two spells consist of
- Dark Orb
- Dark Hail
Dark orb is the hex equivalent of soul arrow. It is more of a medium range spell, and is slightly slower than soul arrow, but has a slightly blast radius. In contrast, when dark hail is cast, it will emit several dark projectiles. The caster can use this to two effects -
- against multiple enemies.
- used at closed range against a single enemy. It will inflict quit a bit of damage.
To maximise the effects of dark spells and hexes, it is advisable to get the bone staff and then upgrade it to the maximal amount using titanite shards initially (+3), then large titanite shards (+6) and titanite chunks (+9). Use the bone staff until the next best dark casting staff or weapon comes along.
- When leveling up, increase both the intelligence and faith attribute for casting hexes.
- the hero can farm titanite shards from the large torturer creatures at Harvest Valley and Earthern Peak
- the hero can farm large titanite shards from the large embryonic alien like creature in the black gulch.
- the hero needs the dull ember from Iron Keep and the blacksmith Mcduff at the Lost Bastille to upgrade the bone staff or other equivalent hex casting weapons or staffs.
Dark Souls Use Other Hex Spells
- Dark Fog
Dark fog is the hexer's answer to the poison mist spell. Cast this into an area and lure monsters into the ares. Once exposed, the monsters will take damage continuously for a period of time. Dark fog causes more damage per unit time compared to poison mist.
- The hero can get Dark Fog from Straid and the Gutter.
This is the hexer's equivalent of the soulmass spell. When cast, orbs of darkness congregate around the hero and then lashes out at the enemy. The number of orbs is dependent on the hero's intelligence. Affinity orbs will sometimes target different enemies if more than one is present.
- The hero can get this spell from Straid of Olaphis and from the kobolds.
The problem with this spell is that it requires both intelligence of 40 and faith of 24 to cast. This may be one too many attribute to concentrate when leveling up. So approach Magerold of Lanafir at Iron Keep and infuse the spell with skeptic splice to lower the faith attribute so one may cast the spell.
- Dead Again
This spell, obtained from Stone Trader Chloanne, at the Harvest Valley, is cast on dead bodies. This spell is especially good when used correctly in PvP settings, where the hexer will lure the invading enemies into the area. All the bodies will explode, inflicting damage on the enemy.
- Dark Weapon
The weapon in the other hand is imbued with dark damage energy.
- Whisper of Despair
This spell will summon a skull which will hover near the enemy and lower the defences significantly for a period of time. Very useful against bosses and invading players. The hero can get this spell from the Grave of Saints.
This hex will make the hero invulnerable to damage for the next 1.5 seconds. The hero should hold the hex staff in one hand and a powerful weapon in the other. When the bodd is about to attack, cast repel with the staff and then attack with the powerful weapon in the other.
- Twisted Barricade
Similar to repel, except it deflects all spells for 1.5 seconds. The problem with this spell is that it requires a faith of 25 to cast. But now, the hero knows how to circumnavigate this problem.
This spell decreases damage by 35% for a brief period of time. This brief period of time is all that is needed for the hero to be more aggressive. However, the hero's vision becomes tunnel like and this may impair effective combat.
- Scraps of Life
- The hero needs to get this spell from the Gutter.
This spell creates pillars of dark force around the battlefield, resulting in large amounts of damage, particularly to boss monsters. It only has an intelligence requirement of 8 and faith of 12.
Darkstorm is a difficult spell to cast. It requires the hero to be still and has a long casting time. Once cast, the hero will summon a vortex of orbs around him, and this will hit the enemies, causing more and more damage.
- Resonant Soul, Great Resonant Soul, Climax
This group of spells, which the hero can only get from the Pilgrims of Dark, will fire a dark projectile at the enemy. The resonant group of spells will drain souls and cause more damage.
- Resonant Flesh
Creates temporary health for the hero at the expense of souls.
- Resonant Weapon
Imbues the weapom in the other hand with dark energy at the expense of souls.
- Lifedrain Patch
This is a devious hex indeed. The hero leaves a patch in the battlefield that will inflict damage if the enemy walks into it. The hero will also be damaged if he walks into it. The damage of the lifedrain patch will increase if souls are used to intensify the damage.
- The hero can get this spell from Straid.
- Profound Still
- The hero can get this spell from Darkdiver Grandahl.
When cast, this spell produces a wave of dark energy around the hero. Enemy spellcasters cannot cast spells for a period of time. This spell is terribly effective against the sorceresses (Earthen Peak) and the undead mages, and in PvP settings against opponent mage players.
