Opening Scene
The third book in the Dark Series by Christine Feehan is tells the story of Alexandria Houton. She has been raising her little brother, Joshua, since their parents died. It has never been easy for them.
The beginning of the story has Alexandria meeting Thomas Ivan, the genuis behind a new craze of computer and video games mostly dealing with vampires and demons. He was looking for a new graphics artist. Alex desperately needed this job. "I brought sketches with me. Samples of ideas, drawings of the story line you suggested for your next game. I see so clearly in my mind what you're describing." Ivan was impressed with her sketches.
Unfortunately, Alex had to bring Joshua with her to this interview because the babysitter didn't show up. Joshua was left outside with an older family friend named Henry. Henry was an elderly homeless man who often slept in the small grove of trees behind the restaurant.
During her meeting with Ivan, Alex feels the presence of evil. She leaves the meeting quickly and runs outside to find a vampire has killed Henry and put Joshua in a trance, turning him away from his beloved sister.

Why I Love This Series
The writing is so detailed that I can actually see it happening in my head as I'm reading. I KNOW what each character looks like and their facial expressions. I have a map in my head of their homes and surroundings. After having read all the available books, I also know their families. Each one is like a member of my family now. Ms Feehan is a wonderful storyteller!
The characters are so real that I find myself laughing out loud and crying with them.
It is too hard to put the books down so I find that I am sometimes up all night to finish one!
Reading Order
I didn't start out reading the series in order. As a matter of fact, I already had several of Christine Feehan's books from different series sets and didn't realize it was the same author! I know, I know... most people check authors first. Well, I have always just picked books that caught my eye. When I began rearranging my shelves and getting books ready for the "read once book store" none of these were in the stack. They were in a box to be sorted for the shelves...to keep...forever.
As I began putting the books on the shelf, I saw her name several times. Wow! I already had eight of her books! Did I read them in order? Not a clue!
For those of you who need to read a series in order, here is the proper reading order:

I find myself now trying to get all the "covers" of each book. As publishers change and these books are re-released the cover changes and it's fun to find the 1st and 2nd editions still in good shape.
