Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns

Updated on September 9, 2014

Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns is one of my favorite books about haunted places.

Haunted ghost towns have always fascinated me. I have a bunch of books home on haunted places from all over the world, including the UK and the US. When I saw Derek Acorah's Ghost Towns in paperback, I bought it right away because for one, it's a book about ghosts, and second, it's a Derek Acorah book, and I literally own everything he has written so far.

The TV series was made into 3 seasons (I watched all seasons back in 2005 and 2006) and right now they are available on DVD if you want to check them out. Having seen them, I was really curious about the book, so I got it for myself.

When I got the book in the post, I saw that it's quite light on the pages (my copy has 235 pages). I started flipping through it and I was pleased to see that the book is illustrated - not with color photos, mind you, but the black and white photos includes are really great to see what the author is talking about.

I read the book in one sitting. It was entertaining, fun to read and I found it to be pretty accurate. I love ghosts and I actually believe in their existence. Also if you've seen the TV series (or the DVD), then you'll be pleased to know that the book follows the TV show pretty accurately.

Who Is Derek Acorah?

Derek Acorah (real name Derek Johnson) is a well respected and well known medium and psychic living in the UK and this particular book is a tie-in to his TV series with the same name. It is considered a paranormal reality TV series that focuses on Derek Acorah as he visits various towns in the UK where hauntings have been taking place.

The author is also very controversial, many websites, blogs and forums calling him a fake and a not legitimate psychic. Of course, the same words are usually said about most mediums and psychic all over the world. The truth is, if you don't understand something, you'll fear it, and belittle it. it's a human trait which goes back hundreds of years.

The fact that he gets things wrong now and then makes him only human, but not a fake. For example he apologized on occasion for giving wrong information about a person - the story of Madeleine McCann comes to mind here. But then don't we make all mistakes now and then?

Despite this, however, for many of us Derek Acorah is the real deal, one who indeed can speak with the dead and see ghosts.

Derek Acorah also appeared in the Army of Ghosts episode of the popular Doctor Who TV series

Who should read Derek Acorah's Ghost Town?

If you enjoy reading stories about ghosts, hauntings and paranormal occurrences, then this book is a great way to get a bit more of this fun topic. In addition, you will love this book if you're already familiar with Derek Acorah's books or his work as a medium. And even if you don't care much for ghosts in real life, let's face it, it does make a great read for Halloween!

Very interesting! We lived in a house with poltergeist activity many years ago. Did not believe in ghosts until we experienced it ourselves. I am always interested in others' experiences. I may have to look into this author. Thanks!
