Four Short Stories
This is a set of stories from Four's point of view. "The Transfer" is included.
Learn about initiation in Dauntless before Eric made changes. Find out what really happened to Four's mother. Get his perspective on Tris Prior in the fourth story of this collection.
This is the first installment of Tobias Eaton's, a.k.a. Four's, backstory from Veronica Roth. The Divergent Trilogy is mostly told from Tris Pryor's perspective, except for the last book, Allegiant, which alternates between Tobias' and Tris' voice. In The Transfer we get to find out why Tobias left his faction, Abnegation, to join Dauntless. Roth gives insight into Tobias' mother and the gifts she gave him as well as his father and the terrible abuse Four suffered.
Marcus Eaton was a respected Abnegation leader, which should have meant he was selfless among the selfless. The faction that looks to him for leadership never suspects what really goes on when Marcus and his son are at home. Learn what drives Tobias, who is probably much better suited to the Abnegation faction than his father, to leave his faction and become a transfer to Dauntless.
The reader will suffer with Tobias as he wrestles with the decision his society forces upon him at age sixteen: stay in Abnegation and continue to silently endure his father's abuse, or transfer to another faction. Should he join Amity (the peaceful,) Candor (where he will have to reveal all his secrets,) Erudite (the intelligent,) or Dauntless (the brave?) Share in his painful decision to face his fears and join the faction that values courage above all other virtues.
Veronica Roth has now released the rest of Tobias' story, including this short story. This book will tell fans more about his initiation into Dauntless and his work training new initiates.
