Doubting Lilly

Updated on October 9, 2012

Here, she is doubting, Lilly

The depression has set in

To keep it light

Putting up a fight

Why oh why

Is she one of a kind?

Does this happen?

There’s no difference

It’s all in her mind

Running from life

Does not help

The sadness overtakes

Would it be so bad to be?

In the shafts of the night

Imagination plays tricks with the light

Ears picked up diminutive sound

Searching for home in the underground

Should she run away?

With the destructives of her mind

Creaks and groans

She often feels

Heart trembling

Like a frightened bird

Only steel breaking silence

Fear needs half a chance

The buzz of wills

Does little

Set a lively mind free

Was that her name?

She hears calling?

Again round and round

Did she see the figure of a man?

Waving just for her?

When all is still

That’s when her mind

Causing harm

While the vision is enhanced

Her fear needs half a chance.

Running from memories

Looking back

She was a child again

Not safe in the night

Creeping beside her like the devil he was

Hurting her

Making her cry in her soul

Jericho’s walls comes tumbling down

She is depressed again.

She cries to Him

Help her hold her tight

Keep the memories

From her side

That takes her into the night

Close her eyes

And see as HE whispers to her

‘Lilly, hold on

Take me by the hand’

‘I will guide you

To the Light

Just keep up the fight’

She saw love crying out the window

The window of her soul

The birds were singing

In morning dawn

Color My World

Lord, she begs

Take this

Depression far away

It hurts too much

Help her face the dark

As he leaves fingerprints

In her soul

Take these tears

Trying to remember

A few words

Heart aches

Stars are blinking

Biting her lip

Help her Lord

Take this depression away!

Telling her not to cry

She prays!

      Hi Debbie,

As we travel the long dark path of depression seemingly alone, each one of us has distant companions traveling a similar and parallel road unseen by any one of us. Your poem reminds us that we’re not completely alone in the abyss of this debilitating affliction.

What sinks one into the depths of depression and hold them captive can be any number of things. Yet, the answers to escape can be found.

Another great one, lady! Don't stop!

Your poem is wonderful. There are so many people who suffer with depression these days because of the stressful life we all seem to live in. I know of someone (a young girl who should have been getting married this coming weekend) sank into a deep depression about four weeks ago.

Your poem highlights the feelings but also gives hope.

      Thank you for sharing this,

Depression is a serious condition and many are in it and don't realize. We all have times when life feels so overwhelming that we don't know if we an cope..and then the sun rises and we go on. For most of the time when we get does go away. SOmetimes I feel we are all lost and looking for peace and happiness.

This is very powerful and beautiful. It speaks, I think, to a universal truth that we all battle from time to time when depression comes creeping around. You have a strong presence to guide you in your faith. Very beautiful.

Oh, precious one Debbie, there are no words to even express how one's heart feels after reading this stunningly powerful poem. It is in the night when that deep pain from the past seems to come back to haunt us. I know I was surprised when I was away for a little while during my surgery and then the blood clots, but one night after surgery, I was having such physical pain, and then my mind just went to a deep dark place - there you are in that pitch dark night, alone in pain, then the mind runs wild. Voted Way Up once again. "Lilly" is beautiful. In His Love, Faith Reaper
