The Promise of Energy Psychology

Updated on July 16, 2015

Revolutionary Tools for Dramatic Personal Change

This book was written by three of the legends in the energy psychology fields: Energy Medicine gurus Donna Eden and David Feinstein and the founder of the world's most widely used energy psychology techinque,  Emotional Freedom Techniques, Gary Craig.

Energy Psychology is an emerging paradigm based on using physical interventions to change our thoughts patterns and feelings usually in much less time then conventional talk therapies. This book is the most authoritive and user-friendly way to teach yourself about this remarkeable new development.

The unique approach presented in this book shows how you can work with your body's energies to shift your neurology and actually alter the patterns in your brain that maintain unwanted habits, maladaptive emotional responses, and self-limiting ways of thinking.

Opening Thoughts

"The cell is a machine drive by energy. It can thus be approached by studying matter, or by studying energy. In every culture and in every medical tradition before ours, healing was accomplished by moving energy."

-- Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, Nobel Laureate in Medicine

"All truth goes through three stages. First it is ridiculed. Then it is violently opposed. Finally it is accepted as self-evident"

-- Schopenhauer

What is Energy Psychology?

"Energy is the blueprint, the infrastructure, the invisible foundation for the health of your body. Your body is composed of energy pathways and energy centres that are in a dynamic interplay with your cells, organs, moods, and thoughts. If you can shift these energies your can shift your health, emotions, and state of mind." - The Promise of Energy Psychology

Building upon conventional therapeutic methods, Energy Psychology utilizes techniques from acupressure, yoga, qi gong, and energy medicine that teach people simple steps for initiating changes in their inner lives. It works by stimulating energy points on the surface of the skin which, when paired with specific psychological procedures, can shift the brain's electrochemistry to:

  • Help Overcome Fear, Guilt, Shame, Jealousy, or Anger
  • Change Unwanted Habits and Behaviors
  • Enhance the Ability to Love, Succeed, and Enjoy Life

While this is still a controversial area within the mental health field (the techniques look very strange and the claims of a growing number of practitioners seem too good to be true), evidence is mounting (see research) that these techniques are significant, powerful tools for both self-help and clinical treatment.

What I found useful

As an experienced EFT Practitioner, I was already familiar with the benefits and procedures outline in the ealier chapters. I had used EFT to resolve many of my own issues and for hundreds of clients.

What I found useful was the 5-Minute Energy Daily Energy Routine in Chapter 6. Unlike EFT, which concentrates on specific problems or goals, this routine helps you in a more general way. It leaves you energetically more vibrant and more resilient.

The routine has seven parts and requires only five minutes. You will be well rewarded for the time spent with increased efficiency, greater vitality, better health. The specific benefits of each method are also listed, and each can be used separately as well as within the routine.

I give this routine to all my clients because of the overall benefits it conveys. Often, if EFT or other energy interventions are slow to work, then this routine will correct the factors working against it.

If you have read this book, what was your experience?

I really support the work of energy therapy, as Donna Eden does, and of course energy psychology which I'd like to read more about.

I haven't read the book, but you peaked my interest. I have been doing energy psychology for many years and it certainly does work! As Gary Craig says, 'we are in the basement of a healing highrise' and it is just beginning.
