everyone lies...
Even victory could feel like defeat,
and the teenager sitting on the witness stand
barely missed a beat,
he thought he was off the hook,
as the judge gave the kid one last,
steady look,
then a woman seated in the back cries,
everyone lies,
even through honest tears,
wet eyes,
it was a God-given truth,
everyone lies,
and this most basic axioms
has three corollaries,
and all three are true,
murderers lie because they have to,
witnesses and other participants lie
because they think they have to,
all to make the pieces fall
into a perfect fit,
or when they have their backs
up against a wall,
everyone else lies for the sheer joy of it,
the lies do call,
the judge shook his head,
and realized that the only people
who cannot lie, were the dead.
