What is your most memorable childhood book?

Mine was a book called "Carbonella" about a mysterious black cat who helps out some poor kids during the summer holidays and then just as mysteriously vanishes again. I loved this story and read it loads of times.

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton.  Slightly bizarre and surreal, I loved it and enjoyed it again when I read it with my daughter a few years ago.

I have many memorable books.  One which comes to mind was "Cinderella".
I enjoyed reading that many times.

Panchatantra, a Hindu book of fables, was my favorite book. I still love to read those fables.

Charlotte's Web by E.B. White. I loved this book as a child and I read it over and over again. Definitely a classic!

For me it was a kid's version of The Prince And The Pauper. It's one of the first books I ever remember reading. I don't know why, I vaguely remember the book, but the story is so well-known that I pretty much understand what my eight year old self didn't.

The Count of Monte Christo!  I thought he was so good at getting revenge.  I don't feel revenge is the best way to go now, but it sure impressed when I read the book at 9.

I would have to say 'Harold and the Purple Crayon' was my number one. I loved that little guy. But I must also say I loved anything by Dr.Suess. smile

First book I really read was The Wizard of Oz and loved it, but the book that had the most effect on me and kept me reading was Wrinkle in Time.

Harry Potter from about 6 onwards. End of an era couple of months ago.
The Roald Dahl books were all great too: James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Twits and others.

    Oh man,
One favorite?  That's a very tough call!
I always had a fondness for The Littles, and of course Charlotte's Web. : )

My favorite book as a child was, Where the Wild Things Grow.  I did not care much for the film adaption though.

By far my favourite book as a kid was "Secret Garden." I can still today, as an adult, read it over and over again.

"The Miracle Worker" (the story of Helen Keller)   I got the children's version from a school book club when I was nine or ten, and I absolutely loved the story.  The book had the braille alphabet at the back, so I thought that was interesting too.

In second place:  "Heidi"   I had a big, thick, "grown-up-writing", version of the book, with no pictures other than the occasional full-page, black-and-white photo from the Shirley Temple version of the movie.  The book was so thick and had such small print, it took a long time to read - and re-read because I liked it so much the first time.   I think I was eight or nine when I kept re-reading that one.

My favorite was Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm - because I loved the teacher who read it to us.  When I ask my students (9 year-olds) that question, they usually respond with whatever book they are currently reading.  Love it!

I was obsessed with Hardy Boys when I was a child, but the book that left the deepest impression was 100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Granted, I couldn't understand half the things the novel said, but the writing was tremendously imaginative and it impacted the way I think and wrote for a very long time.
