Even as an adult, I still have a soft spot for some of the books I read as a kid, like Horton Hears a Who, Alice in Wonderland, What Katy Did, Anne of Green Gables, and I loved the Nancy Drew series.

Thank you @floriferous. I completely agree and I am hoping that the answers will enable me to create a list for my own children. Seems like a good exercise for summer vacation!!!

The Wizard of Oz will always be my favorite and I read most of the series with my daughter ( some of the Oz books were pretty scary and I had to skip a few parts) My kids all loved the Robert Munsch books. I still can't get through " love you forever" without bawling my eyes out.

Yes the books can be a bit scary but I may need to revisit them again - thanks! My daughter loves Robert Munsch.

Oh there are so many but the ones that come top of mind today include "The Secret Garden" by Frances Hodgson Burnett (about ages 9 to 12) and the "Superfudge" series from Judy Bloome (about grade level 2).

My favorite book as a child was Maurice Sendak's "Where The Wild Things Are?" I also read most of C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia" series. "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is my favorite of the series.

I loved to read when I was a kid.  Wizard of Oz was the first longer book I ever read, Black Beauty, Wrinkle in Time.  I also loved the Nancy Drew series.  As a young person, I thought she was so "cool."

I am really going to have to check ou the Wizard of Oz books with my kids. You are the second to say them. I have to say though, A Wrinkle in Time, was probably one of my most favorite as a young adult! I loved it and still do smile

When I was eight to ten, (heck, even now still!) my favourite book of all time was 'Goodnight Mr. Tom' by Michelle Magorian. I read it over and over, to the point where the pages got worn, and I was devastated when bugs began to eat it, so I had it bound and restored.
I think that book is what got me really interested in studying and learning more about history, particularly during the nineteen forties and fifties.

I also really enjoyed 'The Prince and the Pauper', and the 'One Hundred and One Dalmatians' by Dodie Smith.

My favorite children's book was "Cindrella". I was in love with the fairy and kept waiting for a fairy in my life. The turning of pumpkin into a chariot was most memorable part of the story. Cindrella was my dream of childhood. And I used to hate her step sisters and father by heart.

I loved the Magic School Bus series, but my favorite book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar, because I loved bugs (unlike now…). I'm keeping those to let my children read in the future!

I love the Magic School Bus series as well! The Magic Tree House series is also another favorite in my house.
