Ben Affleck is the next Batman. How do you feel about that?
Well the "Man of Steel" sequel has a new Batman......Ben Affleck. Yeah the guy from "Daredevil". At least they picked an American this time. Anyway, what do you think?
I'm taking a wait-and-see attitude.
Remember, in 1989 no one thought Michael Keaton would be a good Batman (I can vividly remember being involved in a conversation at the local comic book store, which went something like "The guy from BEETLEJUICE? What the @#$%??"), and that turned out pretty well...
I was horrified when I first saw the news. After thinking it over I realized he's actually turned some kind of corner in his career the last couple of years. Maybe not a bad choice after all.
i was completely and utterly shocked about it at first. I also couldn't see him as batman, but after thinking about it, i think it could work. I mean the guy is in shape to play the character, and he has experience working on superhero films before with daredevil; regardless how anyone feels about that film, the reality is that none of the flaws in that movie had anything to do with him, as you can blame the script for that movie's problems.
plus, he's around the same age range wb wanted which was 40 yrs old to play batman, and he's a proven actor. Plus, if part of his contract means that he might end up directing a future dc movie like say justice league instead of snyder, who did a good job with man of steel, but he's inconsistent when he directs movies; whereas affleck is considered one of the top oscar worthy directors of this era, so i hope part of the deal means he can direct justice league as well as star in it; while maybe directing the batman solo film if it goes that far.
I dont see why picking an american makes any difference. Christian Bale was a great batman. When I found out Ben Affleck was the new batman, I was driving and almost wrecked. He is a terrible actor. He will never be able to pull off the darkness and mysteriousness of batman. There has been other batman movies that sucked though. This will just be another one I wont waste my time on. How is this guy even still getting movie parts? I am amazed at everyone's comments so far. Ben Affleck a top worthy Oscar winning director? Thats mind blowing. No wonder so many Hollywood movies are so terrible lately. Also comparing Affleck to Michael Keaton is like comparing spam to a T-bone. Just saying. Affleck isnt a good actor at all.
you are aware of a little film called argo right? although he was snubbed for the best director nod, he was given best director for that movie for every other reward show that argo was nominated for.
that was kind of my point in saying no wonder so many Hollywood movies are terrible lately. The notion that Affleck would be nominated for anything is mind blowing to me. I guess it also show how easily entertained people are.
Ummm....have you seen Argo? Or The Town? Both were two of the best reviewed movies by critics and regular people the last couple of years.
Thats my point...again. I never watch a movie based on what critics or what others thought. regular people and critics are what allow the Afflecks to continue making movies. This is just my opinion obviously.
I'm the same, so I understand. I hated him as an actor for years but Argo interested me. I'm glad I saw it, as it (along with The Town and a couple others) has led me to believe he s turned a corner.
@christian-Are you implying that i have bad taste in movies? And your implying that I'm easily entertained? Buddy, I've reviewed over hundreds of damn movies on this site, so no offense, but i think know exactly how to critique a movie objectively.
I apologize if you're offended. I respect that you have critiqued a lot of movies, but so did Ebert. i don't agree with anything he says. Movies are a matter of opinion. In my opinion Affleck is a terrible actor. If batman is a success you can gloat.
I wasn't really offended by what you said. It was more like irritated when you said how some people are easily entertained, as it sounded like you were dissing those that disagree with you. However, i honestly could careless if we agree or not
I'm not crazy about the choice, but I don't hate Ben Affleck the way most people seem to. It's kind of cliche to say you hate Ben Affleck. My wife was livid when she found out and I had to talk her down. The only consolation she found was that they hadn't cast Tom Cruise as Batman.
Ultimately, I think he will drop out. There is already a fan petition to get him to step aside and I would be surprised if the studio wants to go in with that much negativity. True, most new casting choices are met with criticism, but the execs look at the money, and Ben's last superhero movie didn't do that well. I think Ben Affleck can be good, but his track record is rocky and a lot of people don't want to give him that chance with such a big name character.
Good point with Tom Cruise. I would still be laughing about that one
I like both the Affleck Geese..., err, brothers. Remember "Tower Heist?" I expect he will be a fine Batman; remember the Hollywood mantra: ' talk about me good, talk about me bad, just talk about ME!"
I think he'll make a good batman, he's not a bad choice. I've watched his movies and got to say he's a very talented actor.
I'm willing to give him a chance. I don't like him as an actor, but I don't dislike him either; honestly, he's never wowed me in any of his films, rather mediocre portrayals at best. However, I haven't seen anything recent of his, and he is older and wiser (hopefully) so maybe he'll surprise us and do a good job.
I read somewhere that he was casted because he is a film veteran and a big name. They wanted someone who's been acting awhile to go up against "newbie" Henry Cavill's Superman. In that sense, I'd rather it be Affleck than Tom Cruise or... well, maybe Brad Pitt would be better?! *shrugs*
In the end, I'd rather watch animated DC than live-action. More or less for reasons like these.
A lot of controversies have been going on regarding this topic. Ben Affleck is a good choice or not, we don't know. All we know is that we adore our hero Batman, and it is the character that matters the most ,not who plays it.
I'm thinking it could work. However, this is considering that Batman is going to be more of a side character since this is a movie about Kal'El. Since there is a 2017 release date, I wonder if there is anything else planned.
I am not sure. I'm going with FatFreedyscat. He is a great actor. I think after his dismal daredevil movie he will push all out with this one. Does anybody have any better suggestions on alternatives?
I'm okay with it...I'm not going to judge him until i see his performance.
Would rather have Bale as Batman again - but apparently, he's tapped out. Affleck wasn't terrible, but the whole second installment of Superman wasn't that good to be honest.
