5 Books to Increase Your Wisdom

Updated on July 4, 2012

Improve Your Mind and Relax at the Same Time With These 5 Books

I like to relax and read books that will help me to make improvements in my life. It is exciting to learn new things that can really make a huge difference (or even just a small difference).

I love learning, but books need to be entertaining or easy to read for me to stay with it. I had enough textbooks in school! Here are some great books, and one audio book that I believe will help anyone improve and entertain them at the same time.

The five books are:

Total Money Makeover,

48 Days to the Work You Love,

The Power to Shape Your Destiny,

12 Traits of the Greats, and

Never Give Up.

Check them out, increase wisdom, and Enjoy!

Total Money Makeover - by Dave Ramsey

Dave Ramsey is a national radio host. He focuses on helping people get out of debt and budget their money. I took his Financial Peace University class and learned some very helpful things. I also like the fact that Dave includes a lot of funny stories in his classes and seminars (because I have a relatively short attention span).

Here are some videos with Dave Ramsey so you can get to know his philosophy a little better.

48 Days to the Work You Love - by Dan Miller

I love all of Dan Miller's books and information. This book is great for helping folks focus on the type of work he/she should do. The best work for a person is based on "how they were wired" (passions, values and skills). There is also has a plan for getting that right job. The goal is to make money by doing work that you love to do.

This is a book I would give as a gift to anyone who is not excited about their current career or job.

Here are some Dan Miller videos. I like Dan Miller so much that I made a lense all about it ! You can check it out right here: Do The Work You Love

Dan Miller is all about matching the work you do to your passions, values and skills.

The Power to Shape your Destiny - by Tony Robbins

This one is actually an audio book. I thought I should give you a choice with an audio option. Sometimes it is easier to learn by audio, for example: driving in the car, riding on an airplane...or relaxing on the beach! This audio book is the next on my list to buy for myself. I recently saw an interview that Tony Robbins did with Oprah Winfrey recently and he was very inspiring.

Tony Robbins

I think you can best get a feel for what Tony Robbins is all about by watching him on video. Here are some You Tube clips for you to check out.

One thing that really stands out to me about Tony is that he really cares for people - and he really knows his stuff.

12 Traits of the Greats - by Dr Dave Martin

The 12 Traits of the Greats
The 12 Traits of the Greats

I liked this book so much I have read it twice already. The chapter on Taking Responsibility really can change the way you think about some things. Lots of great info.

Dr. Dave Martin - Author of "12 Traits of The Greats"

Dr. Dave Martin is one of the most entertaining presenters that I have seen live. He says folks describe him as a "cross between Joel Osteen and Larry The Cable Guy". It fits too!

If you ever get a chance to see him speak I highly recemmoend it. Be ready to laugh and learn!

Never Give Up - Dr. Joyce Meyers

If you are going through challenging times, I highly recommend this book for you. The whole book gives you inspiration to keep going and reach all that you were made to be. Never Give Up - I love that.

Never Give Up!: Relentless Determination to Overcome Life's Challenges

This would also make a great gift for someone going through a tough time.

Joyce Meyers

I am still pretty new to Joyce Meyers. This is the first book by Joyce that I have read. I really liked the book and believe it can help a lot of people.

Here are some videos of her that you can check out.

Dr. Joyce Meyers' books certainly are full of everyday wisdom, I've read several of hers. Love her sense of humor and how she tells on herself. :)

While I worked in the venture capital field for many years, those are not the books I would choose. What bit of real wisdom that I possess comes from books like "I Never Saw Another Butterfly", a slim book of poems written by children at Nazi concentration camps.
