got rained on first

Updated on August 14, 2013

Bagged drugs littered the ground,

and the dealer was laying face down,

on a basketball court

at the housing project,

everything came to a halt,

his torso covering the loaded

9MM Colt,

he never had a chance to use it,

it was a gang hit,

the gun was cocked,

with a live round in the chamber,

his drug world was rocked,

someone was looking for him,

and he was looking for someone,

what’s done is done,

he couldn’t fight back or run,

it was a killing thirst,

but the drug dealer

got rained on first.

Up, awesome, and interesting votes. Great poetry. Very dramatic. Sadly, I am sure this happens a lot. Perfect title pick Frank. Another awesome poem.

      Hi Frank

      "it was a killing thirst,

      but the drug dealer

      got rained on first."

I wonder how many deaths he was responsible for. Payback time.

      Voted up and awesome.

...always love your writing Frank - it inspires the epi-man greatly and I often come away from here wanting to write one of my own because of you - got rained on first is a great title and I first heard the expression in a song 'Small change got 'rained on' by his own '38' by one of my favorite songwriters Tom Waits. A big influence on my writing and another great one too - Warren Zevon.

It is a sad reality that many young people do drugs and they fall into crime.

      Happy New Year my friend

Well.. not going to hit a moral comment on how much the drug dealer deserved this sticky end, but the way you write it surely depicts the scene as if I am standing right there, watching his body that lies in a pool pf blood.

Ha hA he is toast, probably made the most of his time . No way !

Love when you put it together that way because it's a reminder that you will reap what you sow.

      Another thriller brethren Frank.

      Great poem with your twist.
