Signs You Might Be a Harry Potter Fanatic

Updated on February 18, 2012

Sure you've read all the Harry Potter books (including Quidditch Through the Ages, The Tales of Beedle the Bard and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them). You've seen all the movies (ten times) and can quote scenes and answer Potter trivia in your sleep. But really? How can you tell if you're a real Harry Potter Fanatic?

Books Into Movies

Hollywood loves producing popular books into movies because they come with instant fan bases. However the Harry Potter movies caused great debate and strife within the fanatics community.

What did you think of the Harry Potter movies?

Loved them. They might not have followed the books precisely, but they took a life of their own and encouraged kids (and adults) to read.

i hate how some people watched 6 movies then read the 7th book and that fact that harry's eyes were blue, but i don't mind the movies-though i prefer the books

    • Monica Ranstrom 5 years ago

I really liked the movies. I think they did a good job putting those huge books into a movie!

    • aquarian_insight 5 years ago

The movies were quite well done and the casting was fabulous. The problem is that so much gets left out, but how do you fit a whole book into 2hrs? In this sense, The Deathly hallows movies were probably the best done as it was split into 2.

Loved them. Granted, movies are never as good as the books, but in this case I thought the movies were brilliant. Yes, there were a lot of poetic license taken by the producers/directors, but to me so much of the cinematography was great and I am such a fan of the stories.

I generally liked the movies, although each one raised some discrepancies, but I honestly didn't like the Prisoner of Azkaban. I totally agree with JoshK47--the shrunken heads (among other issues) were just terrible. Not to be politically incorrect, but honestly, it was just painful. Being extremely generous, shrunken talking heads for comic relief might work if (a) the whole thing wasn't so stupid, (b) the concept had been remotely mentioned in the beloved book the movie was supposed to be following, and/or (c) the setting or circumstances tied in with cultural skull/head iconography (say, El Dia de los Muertos, some form of All Hallow's Eve, tribal remnants in various regions, European Black Death, etc.). Other concerns included the abandonment of the entire previous Hogwarts set (Extreme Makeover: Wizard School and Surrounding Terrain edition), the loss of uniforms, and the out-of-character fashion sense of Hermione. In the adaptions overall, the absence of Peeves peeved me, as did the neglect of the entire house-elf controversy, among other things. The movies most true to the books (and thus my favorites) were the Chamber of Secrets and the Deathly Hallows, part 2, which were both accurate and excellent.

Only one I disliked was Prisoner of Azkaban - mediocre movie overall, and just changed too many things... plus, what's the deal with the shrunken heads?

I have only seen one of the movies. I love watching anything with my nieces. It is wonderful to see them excited about reading these books.

I loved all of the ones I've seen so far. Missed the last 2 and the last 3 books! I've got a lot to do to get back in the swing of things! lol

      Love the movies :)

    • Ann Hinds 6 years ago from So Cal

It is almost impossible to recreate a book into a movie. I was impressed, they did a good job.

    • Bill 6 years ago from Gold Coast, Australia

Our whole family loved the movies and were eagerly awaiting each instalment. We have the books at home too, which by the way, have been read so many times that they are falling apart! Films always differ from the books slightly. If we accept that, then we can enjoy the films more for what they are.

    • TravelingRae 6 years ago

All but Half-Blood Prince were good adaptations that respected the mood and story of the books.

    • BunnyFabulous 6 years ago from Central Florida

Liked them overall, but I never like how movies put in stuff that wasn't in the books in place of cool things that really were in the book.

    • bassetmonkey 6 years ago

They embodied HP spirit. Triple loved the entire supporting cast ...

UGH! Worst Idea Ever! The movie took a spin from the book and in the wrong direction.

I didn't care for the first movie (content... yes, I'm weird). Didn't read the books.

      • TeacherSerenia 6 years ago

The movies got rather dark for my liking. I stopped watching after the 4th one, Although I have seen death hallows part 1 and am waiting for death hallows part 2 to show up on DVD. I was very impressed that the books got kids reading. But the movies got too dark.

I was abroad when the Half Blood Prince was released, and of course had ordered it way before it was released. But I could not wait to get my mitts on it, so had my parents send it via a friend to me. The evening it arrived, I was in the middle of a dinner party at my friends. My friend and I (she's also a huge HP fan) got up in front of everyone and one by one, took the book in our hands and fondled it gently before kissing it. We turned to see the other guests staring at us and one lady called us mad! haha - fab lens!

You really did a fabulous job with your creativity in the way you presented it. *Squid Angel Blessed* and added to My Squid Angel Blessings for 2012 in the "Books, Poetry & Writing » Books » Children's Books" neighborhood. In fact, you are the 1st lens to be featured in this category. Whoot!

Congrats on LOTD. I love HP in both book and film form. I thought you did a great job with this but I did notice a few spelling errors in the intro. (sorry to point them out) My son went around the house with his toy wand for hours after seeing the latest film casting spells on everything. Hilarious stuff it was! LOL
