Hello, Rainy Days!
Rain, rain go away
After more than two months of scorching heat, it's rainy season again here in the Philippines. It has been raining all week in the afternoon and the weatherman has announced the start of the rainy season. I'm not really a big fan of rainy days because the environment looks gloomy and everything around you is wet. But what I like about rainy days is that there are things that are better done when its raining than on a hot summer day.
Below are some activities that I enjoy doing on a rainy day. Take note that most of them can be done inside the house.
1.) Take a bath in the rain with the kids
Taking a bath with the kids will not only stir some old memories in you but also creates new ones for the kids. You can play tag games with them or simply have fun in the rain. I am sure the kids will enjoy having you around with them while they play in the rain. I remember doing this when we were young. We would run barefoot and almost naked in the rain with no care at all.
The picture shows my brother having fun in the rain with his 2 daughters and a niece.
2.) Watch a Movie/ or TV Show
Rainy days are always a good time to watch your favorite movies again or to see some new ones which you have been wanting to see but didn't have the time. Or maybe you can watch some reruns of of your favorite tv shows. You can do so while lying on your bed or on the couch, and with a bag of popcorn or your favorite potato chips at your side and you favorite drink to go with it. This will surely take the whole day and you won't notice how time flies.
Below are some episodes of Mr. Bean, one of my favorite tv show.
3.) Make a Family Photo Album
If you're the type who doesn't want to go out much in the rain, then you can try making a photo album or maybe rearrange an old one. Many people nowadays don't care much about photo albums as they can easily post their pictures online. But for me, a real photo album is better since you can browse it even when there's no internet connection.
4.) Watch the rain
I always love seeing raindrops fall on roofs or on the street, creating bubbles and small puddles. I like watching people with their colorful umbrellas and in their raincoats walking outside our house. I love seeing trees bending to where the wind blows them, the leaves falling slowly. I love the sound of children laughing while running in the rain. So if you don't have anything to do, you can just relax and watch the falling rain through your window. Who knows, maybe you will be able to see the rainbow too.
5.) Listen to Your Favorite Music
Listening to music is one of my favorite past time. I know there’s a saying that you cannot do two things at the same time but I believe otherwise. While reading a novel or a book, it is always nice to have some background music. During rainy days, I prefer listening to my collection of instrumental music and my compilation of old Tagalog songs. Below are some music about the rain.
Singing in the Rain - Gene Kelly
Have You Ever Seen the Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival
Here Comes the Rain Again - Eurythmics
Fire and Rain - James Taylor
Rainy Days and Mondays - The Carpenters
6.) Read a Book
This is also a good time to read your favorite books or novels. If you don't have a book, there are internet sites that offers e-books for your enjoyment. There are also back issues of magazine that you can buy at a discounted price.
