home - where my heart is

Updated on July 18, 2012
puss eating faster

old fur in bowl eats

soft silver red body aches

warily looking

puppy darts nearby

hovers waiting salivates

puss to sate hunger

finding sunny spot

pup leaps in cat moves

away to find warm sunny

spot in room corner

snowy cockatiel

perches on a willow branch

high in cage watching

snowy on high branch

nibbles on seed bell

listens to every sound

cocks his head peering

through the bars safely

shrouded no vision impaired

flutters feathers fly

curtains closed, table set

grandson chattering

plates clattering in kitchen

chef preparing food

TV sounds and light

curtains closing for the night

day draws to a close

on bed cat napping

quietness descends

everything slowing down

child in bed near sleep

bird wings, tucked in head

puppy curled in crate and bed

old puss sleeps by feet

in bed, we snuggle

under doona and blanket

sleep enfolds all in

Thanks for your lovely feedback Bobbi, we now have a new kitten called Paddington and he is an American Curl, named for the curve of his ears, and he is so funny. He loves to play with water when it is running and he pats it with his paws...very funny to watch...he doesn't seem to mind getting his head wet when he ducks under the flow to attempt to 'catch' it.

So beautifully written---words from the heart. My animals are my pride and joy---each with it's own personality---and so funny to watch.

Life would be dull without our animals and writing---expecially for me since I do not have children.

I have six nephews so I feel they are part mine also.

Thanks for sharing you beautiful poem with us.

      Your Hub Friend,

      Bobbi Purvis

What beautiful sentiments about home--yes, certainly where the heart resides. Your poem reflects a cozy environment of familiarity and love. Very sweet.

How lovely, in word and imagery, to start the morning! My two year old granddaughter loved the "ahhh, kitty" and the tweet tweet! In His Love, Faith Reaper
