How to Be Alone (but never lonely!)

Updated on October 22, 2013

If you are like me and roughly 6 million other people around the world, you watched in awe as Tanya Davis read her poem: 'How To Be Alone' on her viral youtube video (see below). Tanya Davis, Canadian poet, singer/songwriter and musician put herself on the map with that video, and Harper Collins has now made the poem into a neat little book, so perfect for gift giving to anybody from parents, kids (and especially teens!) to teacher and partners.

Teaming up with illustrator Andrea Dorfman, who's art I admire so much, this book will be a sure fire hit and all time favourite. Dorfman who has illustrated Tanya's poems previously, is also a filmmaker and author in her own right. The two are a perfect match and Dorfman's illustrations are as joyful as Tanya's words.

I began chatting with Tanya a few years ago when she was set to release her second album. I remember reviewing it and feeling as if I had found the soundtrack to my life. It was an 'Aha' moment for sure, her craft is truly music to my ears. She knows the way into your soul and her words will illuminate those hard to reach places; she will lend her narration to the difficult and joyful parts of your life.

I know this book will be one of the ones I have to keep replacing as I will be giving it away so often, and to all my friends and family - guess what you're getting in your stocking this year!

Here is Tanya's music too!!

Watch the video of 'How To Be Alone' here, and listen to a couple of Tanya's songs while watching the amazing art and film work of Andrea Dorfman!

Had you seen Tanya's video before today?

Wow. Wow, wow, WOW. That is perhaps the best video I have ever seen. The poem is beyond brilliant. I am so thankful you brought this powerfully moving anthem into my life and that of all who visit here. I'm going to buy that book. How could I not?
