I fell in love with fire!

Updated on June 26, 2012
Source

Blackness fell on me; alone, frightened, cold air strangling me.

I cried out for help, you glanced at me and winked tiny flickers of hope, I glanced back.

The wind united to play seductive games, sending your dangerously pleasant musty and savage scent.

Hypnotic kaleidoscopic finger tips motioning me closer.

You in a colorful costume, whistling, the flaming fingers snapping as we danced erotically.

Unexpected, jealous wind violently attacks; threats of abandonment, your light quickly leaving. I shrill and beg, loving gentle strokes create sparks, sacrificing nature, rebuilds your force.

Again, together; we love and dance. We care for one another, you gift; light and heat, I tender; sacrifice and kindling.

I awake to find you gone, my body covered in black soot, smoke filling my eyes and strangling me, alone and frightened again.

Scorching eternal regret; I neglected to create the spark; dismissed stroking my fire.

Beautiful. I was left with conflicting thoughts. I love it when a poem can leave me with that mystery. On the one hand I felt the conveyance of blame and abandonment and the sadness and lonlines that come with it. I also felt your sting of having been manipulated, burned, and used having had your tender nature used as "kindling" for his all consuming flame. On the other hand I felt the pain, regret, sorrow and self blame, as if you felt that you had not done enough to keep the flame burning (not the flame of pain but the flame of passion) and were only left as a lonely pile of soot because you failed to create the sparks needed to sustain the flame. Very deep and thought provoking. A definite share. Well done.

Absolutely beautiful! I think we've most of us have been scorched at one time or another. At least the lucky ones. Even if it doesn't last it's a wonderful memory to unpack and look at from time to time.

I'd like to think that he was smoking a little when he left also. I also like to think that he will soon regret leaving.

It's better to have been scorched and left in a pile of soot than to have never been scorched at all.

Excuse me now. I have to go make a phone call. LOL

      Voted up. Awesome and beautiful.

      Thank you for the stir.

You have personified fire powerfully! Even though it is hot, I felt cold as I read your poem. I suppose it was the coldness of threat, abandonment, and aloneness. Awesome poem!

Its amazing to me how the same object or element can create a different feeling or mood depending on the way it's described, and the way it is interpreted. Fire can be passionate, powerful, beautiful, mysterious, dangerous, unpredictable and scary. I feel like love can be all of these things to. Very interesting to think about. Great poem!

Hi Angela, sounds like you set the night on fire but got caught in the back draft. Reminds me of Edna St. Vincent Millay's First Fig--"My candle burns at both ends, it will not last the night...but ah my foes and oh my friends, it gives a lovely light."

I say play with fire, even if it backfires--sometimes a back fire can keep a forest from being destroyed and a love, even if lost is still a love remembered. =:)
