Job application letter example - sample cover letters

Updated on July 7, 2011

Writing a job application letter is not very complicated. Just follow the formal style of letter writing and remember to emphasise how the advertised job fits your education and experience. If the advert mentions specific skills, make sure you include and also mention them within your resume and in your cover letter. If you don’t have enough experience for the job, talk about the projects you’ve done at university or college that helped you get the relevant experience and skills. Don’t forget, for some jobs, many employers like to take people who have experience of working in teams and have people skills.

Feel free to visit the cover letters website for information on how to write your very own cover letters and also for more job letter samples.

Dear Mr Carlton,

I am writing in response to an advert which appeared in the October 7 issue of the Programmer’s Weekly Magazine. I wish to apply for the JAVA programmer position as advertised by your company in the magazine. I have enclosed my resume (or curriculum vitae - CV), certified copies of my degree certificates and two references as specified on the advert.

. An excellent understanding of JAVA backed by 5 years experience working in a relevant role.

. The ability to design, develop and support live use applications.

. Leadership, teamwork and people skills in including experience in managing multiple teams working on a number of projects.

. Full understanding of the complete life cycle of software development projects.

. Experience in integrating new technologies to improve existing software and projects.

I have a BS degree in Computer Science from First Class Degree University. Please see the enclosed resume for further information about the courses I took and the grades I achieved.

I would be very happy to discuss the position with you as soon as possible. I can be reached anytime via my telephone number at 000-000-0000. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.
