The Slaughterhouse

Updated on August 21, 2011

I wrote this poem dedicated to all the animals that end up in the slaughterhouse. After viewing several films on horse slaughter and the slaughter of farm animals I wanted to acknowledge their loss of life. The films of millions of animals slaughtered everyday has made me realize that this is not what should happen to these animals...I am anti-slaughter and felt a need to share. So while it may be a dark poem, we, as a society must never forget that sentient beings feel fear, pain and suffer horrendously at the hands of man. We need to achieve a moral and ethical society. The laws that govern our farm industry must be changed.  Thanks for reading this.

darkness enters my soul and beads of perspiration ooze from my essence...

sleep comes in pieces

screams and pictures of your very being bring pain and torture to my soul

knowing..there is nothing I can do but watch

your pain, and anguish

as your life spills out onto the dirty floor

you will never be what you were meant to be

and I sit and watch in horror

knowing, screaming out

and nobody hears

the agony

and I can't believe that no one hears

no one helps

apathy rules

other thoughts come fleetingly into my brain

deep down in my bowels

I feel the madness entering my brain

death is a release from this absolute terror

not even sleep is an escape

death o death

come to the nite and release me from this madness

sobbing uncontrollably now

knowing you are finally free

able to be who you were meant to be

but you are not with me

and I come to realize.

that we will never meet again

but have the realization that you are free........

i wonder when will be a better world?

Thank you both anythingaboutlife...and Binaya. It is a poem about the conditions and treatments of is to bring an awareness of how sentient beings are processed like their lives don't have any value except in terms of money. Many people are truly not aware of what happens and never think about the animals lives. Thanks for being honest Binaya.

I felt so sad after reading this poem because I farm chicken and goats.

I found this while hopping hubs, and it's really great. I hate that animals are treated so cruelly, when they are by far the most innocent creatures on earth. Really moving.

Thank you so much Kathy....this is a social issue that must be addressed consistently to make changes. I am always contacting my state representatives letting them know my feelings about these issues. Hopefully, majority of people will come to realize that life, all life, sentient beings are just as important as human beings...and I am so pleased that we have met and share the same compassion for all animals...thank you again for your support.

Oh jujubees..I am standing right there beside you, crying the tears of hopelessness and futility. Feeling the absolute dismay, terror..disbelief, that this is still going on. That there are those who can commit such crimes; who can go home at night, grab a beer or a cigarette, sit down in that comfy old chair and turn on the brain numbing television. Some will argue, "oh, but for this, they would have no job, they would have no home, they could not feed their families...."

I am not sorry ... I do not accept this excuse; this weak, pathetic excuse. We do not have to slaughter animals by the millions upon millions, referring to them as "slaughter cows," "breeder cows," 'fryers,' and, this is madness...enculturated, accepted and un penalized insanity. I'd like to introduce to a woman who writes beautifully on the pervasive sickness of our society...I shall link it here in time to 'edit,' or add it below. Bless you, jujubees...I do know and understand and stand by you...Kathy

Jujubees....this link will take you to more of Laura's writings; her main emphasis was on farm/factory animals and she holds a deep regard and reverence for all beings. Take care
