Great Children's Book - The Leaf Man of the Fall Season

Updated on June 24, 2014

The Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert and other Leafy Things

Who is the Leaf Man? Is he a make-believe character or a legend?

He is definitely not as prominent as Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but he is important, nonetheless.

The Leaf Man is a character in a book by Lois Ehlert. He comes around during the Fall season and is anywhere the wind blows. In fact, that is how he gets around. So where is he exactly? You will need to read the book to find out.

This book, with leaf cutouts, has won several awards and is a classic in bringing out the imagination of your child, while keeping them busy.

I recommend this book for any child, especially during autumn. You will probably enjoy it yourself. Just don't tell the kids you read it before them!

Relax Tom; I Said Fall "Season," not "Seasoning."

Since moving to Arizona, I really miss the Fall season, which is my favorite season.

I have learned from my own experience that I can enjoy the Yellow Aspens near Flagstaff or the reds oaks near Sedona. While the trees are not nearly as plentiful, I can get my fill during the season.

Other times of the year or if I am not in Northern Arizona, I peruse the Fall colors on the internet and even have some on the walls in my house.

Another way to find Fall colors is in searching and reading the countless books that are out there.

If your children enjoy Fall like I do, then there are some books below that I highly recommend. They need not all be picture books. There are many stories that just take place during the cool, crisp air of Fall.

Have fun and please do not leave without dropping your mark in the guestbook.

Thanks for the visit!

This is the story of the Fall season "Leaf Man."

What does he look like or does he look like anything? This book enhances a child's imagination, as well as gives them something to do when it starts to get too cold to go outside to play.

Lois Ehlert has written this book wonderfully and it has fantastic illustrations and colors. Sure to please any child; pick this up for your children or for a gift.

Another fantastic book by Lois Ehlert; Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf is a story of a tree.

This book not only helps a child learn, it has actual seeds, fabric, wire and tree root to help children develop their sense of touch. They can actually feel these items and it makes this experience much more realistic.

I remember seeing children in the "hands-on" sections of Science Centers which helps children learn. This is a book like none other and highly recommended.

Join the exploits of Oblio and his dog in the land of Point.

I remember owning this LP Album by the late Harry Nilsson, who spun this story from his own imagination. I didn't even know the movie existed until many years later.

Oblio is out on a venture of discovery., meeting some interesting characters along the way. Children through the last several decades have had fun with this story and building their imagination. .

Although this is quite old

In both books, Lois Ehlert uses a cut-out technique and uses a collage technique in her illustrations. A wonderful children's book writer. Beautiful lens. Angel blessed!

Fun lens! I almost wish I had kids to read to. I lived in Sedona Arizona for 15 years. I still love to go to visit our daughter there and drive through the fall leaves in Oak Creek Canyon. Thanks for the lens.

I'm feeling really good now after smiling at you and now I must leave...but like the Leaf Man, I'll be back again some day....oops that would be Frosty the Snowman, I keep getting these guys mixed up. I had never actually seen the Leaf Man's shadow or angel in the leaves, guess that proves he is really real...in our imaginations!
