Light and Shadow

Updated on September 24, 2012

In Shadow

Source

Death disease

One biting concern

How would life survive without us?

Explorer of legends

That’s what we are

Demise’

Immortality

Are they the same?

What’s life?

Forty or forty five years

Maybe ninety

What is in the scheme of things?

'There is a saying that every man that is put on earth is bound to die’

Time and method of execution unknown

Perhaps this is as it should be

Case as point

The latest disease

A little person with such a yam to live

Beaten by the selfishness

By the schemes of things

In this realm of life!

With Sacred Hearts

A compelling story of destruction

Betrayal

A ship to shore communication

Witness if you will a dungeon

That stretches to infinity

A man’s body and mind swelling in the sun

A man dying of loneliness

Days and weeks

I know it is real

What is there left that I can believe in?

Can I believe in myself?

Sinking

Source

Shadows sinking in the sand

Last day of sanity

Just one more day

and then you will be gone

The shadows of the night

Holding on makes me believe it is a lie

Are you real flesh?

How can you hurt me?

I feel like you have

Don’t you see the tear?

I hear the words coming from you

The things I come to know

Makes me glad that nothing else matters

On a microscopic piece of sand that drifts through space

Is a fragrant of a man’s life!

They will rust away

Kept alive by love

Obsolete

Never to be seen again

In the Light and shadow of life

You got my attention at "how would life survive without us?" I never looked at us from that viewpoint before. Once again, one of your poems has made me contemplate on life itself. Voted up.

This is a very different style for your poetry Deborah, it has a drop of the universe in it, and its very metaphorical like.

You have literally grappled life at its weak points and strengths of adversity, and spit it out onto the screen here with your poetic verses.

Awesome hub and quite a surprise indeed, nicely done voted up and out!

Debbie - I am one of the few in this world who has still resisted Facebook. Once I cave, you will be the first one I "friend". Did I say that correctly?

Beautiful, philosophical, insightful- pondering on the vagaries of life and death, the eternal quest and eventual fall only to rise again. The circle of life- the light and shadow. Very evocative Debbie, very well written!

Touching and dramatic statement in this poem. Your use of the light and shadow on life is good. Thought about this and believe that we must remember our lives are touched by many who would desire we remain in the shadows of their touch.
