My Favourite Literary Romances

Updated on July 19, 2010

I have been an avid reader since long.Reading books is life's greatest pleasure, classic's mostly. Now we all know that classics like romeo and juliet, pride and prejudice etc, are based on love, which has a happy or a sad ending. The speciality about these books is,that though written many many years ago, their characters, most importantly, their couples are still loved and admired. While reading them I fell in love with most of them, so here it is, the list of my favourite eternal lovers. have fun while reading and remmember when u read it ,YOU make my day!

1.Mr Darcy and Elizabeth

"There are few people whom i really love ,and still fewer of whom i think well."

The eternal lovers , created by Jane Austen, Darcy and Elizabeth. Elizabeth, well what can one say about her?intelligent, witty, lively, everything a man wants in a woman.Darcy, is protrayed as a true gentleman , rich ,smart, intelligent ,handsome, but a little proud.Well who said one can be perfect?

Their love story unfolds gently, making the reader more interested in reading it. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

2.Romeo and Juliet

" He has not known life, he who has not known love; and his destiny he is yet to find."Phumza Mafela

Ah, Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare's master piece and one of my personal favourites. The love story of two lovers, standing against the world, the ultimate test of love when they have to choose between one another and their familes. The end of the play made my feel like crying, and yes I am a man! I loved everything about these two. Shakespeare did it again!

3.Mr.Rochester and Jane Eyre.

" Love is patient, love is kind, it does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perservers. Love never fails."Corinthians.1

Charlotte Bronte's gift to mankind, a famous and influential novel ;Jane Eyre.A book which covers all the emotions, love, hatred , happiness, loneliness.Edward Fairfax Rochester , is too goot to be true, a byronic hero ,who makes an unfortunate marriage before meeting Jane.

Jane! well what can i say about her? She is a strong woman, who though fell in love with her master, but refused to be his mistress till his insane wife died, showing her strong sense of concious.I have read this book 8 times, and always keep it down with a lump in my throat and yet again, I am a man!

This book is a real pleasure and these lovers are one of the greatest pieces of literature ever written,(if that makes sense)

4.Heathcliff and Catherine

" Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone-we find it with another."Thomas Merton.

Thought id forget them?no way! The Bronte sisters have done it again! Wuthering Heights! ah what a book! a pure treat for the mind.Though Heathcliff's and Catherine's love story ended in betrayal ,I am sure it did make an impression on each and everyone of us, and explained properly the endless war between matierialism and true love, in which usually money wins. However this book, is one of a kind.Reading it made me have a wider perspective, which i owe to Emily Bronte.I loved this book!

I enjoyed telling my favourtie love stories. These stories are wonderful, there are a lot more which i like, for example;  Dracula, Sense and Sensiblity,Hamlet and many more.

Thank you for reading my hub, I hope you enjoyed. Any suggestions for future hubs, and criticism for this one is welcome at all times.CIAO!
