Loving Stories of Animal Friendships
This wonderful book tells 47 remarkable stories of love and friendship in the animal kingdom. Each story tells a brief tale of an unlikely friendship between two different species. The stories range from relationships that are close and permanent to relationships that are shorter yet still just as heartwarming. Most touching are the wonderful photos that accompany each story.
Some people believe that animals are incapable of emotion, compassion, friendships or love. If you have a pet you know otherwise. You know that animals have unique and individual personallities just as humans do and can form friendships and bonds just as humans do. You know that they can love, feel emotion and compassion. This simple book is powerful in its stories and images conveying this message.
Since I purchased this book, I have spent each evening reading one story to my son and sharing the pictures. We have been truly touched by the relationships and the kindness that can be clearly seen between the pairs of animals. Many of the longer and more unique friendship stories are featured in other childrens books, such as the story of Owen and Mzee, a tale of friendship between a giant tortoise and hippo, or koko the gorilla and the kitten, both of which we have also read and love.
Something the reader will notice is that all stories have something in common. This being how the animals involved truly needed a friend, were depressed, sad or lost and alone when they made the bond that they now share with another species, also in need. The bonds are real, the love and friendship is real and this is remarkable. This also shows us just how like us animals are.
Affection, love, compassion, and kindness are not limited to human beings. These other true stories will bring a smile to your face and truly warm your heart.
