Monster-lyrical poem

Updated on January 13, 2012

Inspired by Dexter

The monster wanted to be human;

like Pinocchio --

he wanted to be a real boy.

So he tried being good;

followed every rule,

and smiled like he meant it.

But something was lacking,

some fundamental part

of humanity.

Cracks began to show,

spidering down from eyes

that always had the curtains closed.

'No soul here, move along.'

People whispered uneasily around him.

Shifting away, giving him space;

prey poised to flee from predator.

Instincts can't be faked.

The monster, at last, knew

that no denial could save him.

No excuse nor forgiveness could be said.

His innate nature

would always

Bleed through.
