My 5 Year Old Nephew Loves "Mac the Dog!"

Updated on October 19, 2013

My Nephew Logan Likes "The Adventures of Mac the Dog" Books

I just got back from visiting my family in New York. We spent the long Columbus Day weekend doing what my 5 year old nephew Logan wanted to do. And on Monday he wanted nothing more than to go to Kidz Club, where author Tamara Cantarano would be reading her books about Mac the Dog and singing songs with the kids. (We considered going to the zoo instead... but Logan was repeating "Kidz Club" quite insistently. He is a special needs kid and has delayed speech, so whenever he uses his words we try to listen!)

Logan really enjoyed the presentation. Tamara was great about getting the kids involved... Logan pretended to be Mac the Dog and waved his "paws" and wagged his "tail" with the other kids.

After the event was over, Tamara was available for autographs and Logan was very eager to buy her books and have them signed. She was so kind to Logan, carefully listening to him spell out his name for her and she inscribed a positive message in each book. Each book has a theme, and the personalized message matches the book's theme. (See the below photo.)

Logan was all giggles and smiles when we read her books!

We read the books twice that day, and found that on each page there was a small purple bug hidden in the picture. Logan found this to be hilarious and was all giggles! I liked all of the books, but if I had to choose one it would be "Mac 'N Camping" which mentions the Adirondack Mountains and has a positive message about enjoying the outdoors.

These books were printed in New York state on paper from responsible sources (approved by the Forest Stewardship Council). If you're looking for a made in the USA set of children's books from a new author, and want one with positive messages that the little ones with enjoy, you'll be pleased with this series about Mac the Dog.
