my dream_

Updated on February 15, 2013

I met a blind boy

somewhere in cloudy dreams

in fragments of memory and reality

We were both dressed in black and white

the sun was rising in the night

He had soft eyes of toffee brown

but his smile

contained hints of frown

I looked around

trying to find my place

he tugged my shirt

with innocent face

"Mister... Mister" he softly whispered

"There are so many things I cannot feel

would you

could you

please show me the color wheel?"

His voice was so tender and fragile

like a heart before it's broken

He said, "Show me white"

with teeth so bright

and before I could speak

we were at the mountains peak

I put his hands into the snow

so now he would know

he smiled

then fell on his back

began making an angel

like an ordinary child

He said, "Show me the reds"

so I made a bonfire

he held my shirt walking closer

letting the fire warm his cold hands

he said, "I'm beginning to see"

so I blew out the flames

told him to the smell the grey

"Show me green, so I know what people mean"

immediately
baby grass sprouted at our feet

and we rolled down the softest hills

tumbling into each other half way down

the joy in his face

I cannot describe

"More more", the little boy cried

then suddenly all the trees began walking towards him

and he touched every leaf, twig and limb

"pink pink pink"

and before I could blink

puppies appeared

out of nowhere

licking him everywhere

he was laughing so hard

said it tickled

I couldn't help but giggle

"Show me blue"

and we were in a canoe

put his feet into the water

but that wasn't enough

he jumped right in

came up holding a dolphin fin

his face covered in grin

they swam in circles

in a saltless sea

"Show me brown", he gurgled with glee

immediately we were on land

he held onto my shirt

as we felt the sand

felt the land

then he said something I didn't expect

his words took me back

"Thank you kind sir

for helping me to understand

now, show me God"

so I gave him my hand

Good evening Sir Eric - your writing is always so original and I certainly haven't read anything quite like MY DREAM. As poetry it's great writing and as great writing it exploited cinematic images in my mind of what all of this would look like - and to me - that is always the work of a writer who is a master of his domain.

I hope all is well with you these days and sending you warm wishes from lake erie time ontario canada 8:45pm

Very beautiful. I loved the way it flowed from one color to the next and the joys found within each. Your writing creates a mental picture in the mind--perfect. Rated awesome & thumbs up.
