My Favorite Author: Nicholas Sparks

Updated on September 13, 2016

Feed the Economy

My mother always says "we must feed the economy we live in". Therefore, not only do I try to buy products made here in North Carolina or make sure I visit a variety of businesses here in the area, I also like to support people that are from North Carolina or live here in the state. The reason being, that those are the people representing us and showcasing the beauty of the state we live in. Being the chronic reader that I am, I would like to share one of my top favorite authors, Nicholas Sparks. If you have not read one of his books, I am sure you have seen one of the movies inspired from his books such as, The Notebook, Nights in Rodanthe or A Walk to Remember...to name a few. One of the things that I love about Nicholas Sparks novels is that so far 15 of his novels take place here in NC! He also resides in New Bern, NC and is an active member of the community.

If you are wondering how feeding the economy serves a purpose to you, then lets think about this, I want to purchase a book. I have the option to buy from a local and charming mom & pops book store. Have a direct affect to a member of my community and therefore single handedly put money back into my own community. Or I can purchase the book from a big retailer store such as Walmart, Target, Kmart, etc... Put money into a corporation that has chain through out the country. Corporations that do not invest into the community you live in. Still they may have a few locations in your town. They get bigger and more people choose to purchase there and now that little charming book store has no place to go but bankrupt. There goes a family business. Just something to think about the next time you go shopping.

So if you are like me, and enjoy reading a good book, try one of the following. And don't be shy, let me know what you think of them if you do or have on the comments below.

Happy reading!

The Notebook

Published in 1996

The story of a long lasting love takes place in New Bern, NC. This storyline touches my heart since I am a nurse at a longterm facility and have witnessed first hand elderly couples that have been together for most of their lives. Movie was released in 2004 starring Rachel McAdams, Ryan Gosling, Gena Rowlands and James Garner. I loved both the book and the movie, which is rare for me. A movie based on a book usually tends to disappoint me, but I cried when I read it and later on watching the movie.

Message in a Bottle

Published in 1998

So have you ever wondered what would happen if you was to write a message in a bottle and toss it out to sea? If not, this story will make you want to give it a try! The story line is based in Wilmington, NC. The movie was released in 1999 starring Kevin Costner, Robin Wright Penn and Paul Newman.

This story really hits home. I read it a couple of years ago but after loosing my daughter's dad I can relate to the story line. It shows how one single event can change your whole life. The one takes place in New Bern, NC. One of those books you just can't put down!

Dear John

Published in 2007

This was the first novel I read from Nicholas Sparks and it made me fall in love with his writting. It makes you cry and it makes you angry at the same time. This story gives a very good example of how an event such as 9/11 can affect a person on a intimate level. Now this story line actually takes place in Charleston, SC. Movie Released in 2010 starring Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfreid.
