Next time green for sure

Not really superstitious

Although not really superstitious, my family has had traditions like many Americans with United Kingdom and Irish Heritage. As a result Corn beef and cabbage and wearing green is part of our tradition on St. Patrick's Day but this year I couldn't find anything green to wear.

This somewhat humorous and nonsensical poem is dedicated to St. Patrick's Day 2012.

Where was my green?

Green, green, green,

Where was my green?

I looked and looked

But could not find

Closet, washer,

Dryer and hamper too;

Nowhere was my green

To be seen

Frustrated I was,

As I looked to and fro

So very anxious

It was St. Patrick’s Day

You know

As the dinner neared readied

Corned beef and cabbage,

Aroma came steady

Still no green,

Nowhere my green

I dreaded family pinches

Oh so mean

I would be obvious

I was wearing no green

The food more important

I ceased to be dormant

So I readied my green lacking

For much verbal smacking

So black I wore

Hoping to bore

But with no despair

And eager eyes

One and all began to stare

But no one spoke

Not even a word

Till dinner was over

And each began to stir

Tradition Poll

Do you have St. Patrick Day Tradions?

See results

St. Patrick's Day Traditions

No green they say

You have no green, they say

And on St. Patty’s Day?

Then as if on cue,

My laptop spewed

As I picked it up,

I dropped a cup

My rolling desk,

Lost a wheel

Then I as well

Took a spill

Went to the wash room

To grab a tool

My fillet knife falls

I’m cut, I call

But no blood flowed

Just a nick you know

So very uncool,

I felt the fool

As laughter flowed

Throughout the house

Away I ran,

For green to douse

Search and search again I did

Till green was found

I would stay hid

Then in my closet,

Way in the back

Just behind,

All my slacks

A shirt so green,

Yet words so mean

For you see,

Written quite appropriately,

Was State Farm Catastrophe

So be assured,

As next St. Patty’s Day nears,

I will have

Much green to wear

Thanks Kieran, my thoughts exactly. I tried to find the little rascals, but alas they were no where to be found. I appreciate the read and the comment. Thanks again, Lee

Sounds as if you really offended the little green leprechauns, Lee! I had to laugh - but only because I was able to wear a green sweater all day on St Patty's Day! Better luck next year.

Great humor and so enjoyable! I had to laugh at your dilemna of "no green" to wear. Your video shows a lovely country and so green. I think I would love to have some of that cabbage and corned beef as well. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the read and comment Debbie. It is all true too.

Enjoyable, humorous but rough St. Patricks Day. God bless,
