My Review of Pet Ghosts

Do you believe in Spirits? What about spirits of departed pets?

In Pet Ghosts: Animal Encounters from Beyond the Grave, Joshua Warren coins the term phantimals to describe the paranormal creatures which appear more animal-like than human-like.

No one truly understands how, or why, ghosts manifest, but Warren hazards an explanation for animal apparitions

Could there be Pet Ghosts?

This book is a comprehensive look at how animal spirits relate to humans.

You won't read this book in a day, it's not written in the easiest of English, but if you're keen to contact a former animal companion the vocabulary won't hinder you.

Inside are anecdotes of phantimals (including some manifesting pterodactyls) and more theories to explain them.

There is advice on contacting your own lost pets, some simple tools and techniques to help find the spirit of these deceased pets, and how to record them.

Do former pets still exist, but on a different level?

Warren believes that animals occupy a certain range of frequencies.

When they are alive to us that range includes the part of the spectrum we call physical.

When they die they shift frequencies slightly, shedding that particular layer we experience physically, like a coat, but still existing to some degree at a different level.

Who can know?

"Though the space before me looked vacant, just a tiled kitchen floor with empty food and water bowls, something was there"

I've experienced this personally, and I'm not crazy. One of my most beloved dogs, who used to lay by my feet, would nudge me on the ankle occasionally as if to say, "Hey Ma, I'm here." A week after his death, I felt that same nudge as clear as it was when he was alive. He was letting me know, "Hey Ma, I'm here," again. No, I'm not nuts!

My parents had a beloved cat that passed away. They said afterwards, they would still feel the cat jump onto the bed at night to sleep with them.

My daughter recently lost the old cat that she had adopted from a friend. She was a little over 18 when she passed away. In the just over 2 - 3 years that they were together they were like soul mates. My daughter tells me that she hears her walking in the hallway at night.

We were very close to our cat Trill and we deeply saddened when she passed on. One night my husband and I were in bed and we heard a very loud, rumbling purr like from a big cat. I think she always saw herself as a panther, and has kept a watch on us ever since.

This is just crazy! And there's no such things as ghosts anyway

I used to have a dog ghost. Probably they are not forever either, because after the dog I lost the ghost, too.

About 6 or 7 months after our last family pet passed away I was sitting in my computer chair working here on Squidoo, when all of a sudden one of my plants went almost flying across the dining room. I was the ONLY person home at the time and have a clear view of the dining area and where the plants sit from my chair... there was nothin around that could have possibly caused it. So I said hi to Gamas and talked a bit to her as I cleaned up the mess lol.

I absolutely love this article on ghost cats. I truly do believe that our close companions come back to visit us whether they are human or beast. Love knows no boundaries.

I am not sure, but open to the possibility. There is a lot we don't know. After my cat, Bubba died I had a strong sense he was still here for quite some time. It gave me a lot of comfort. When Tito died I kept waiting for that sense of his presence and never experienced it. I wanted very much to have this continued contact with him, but there was absolutely nothing. He was gone. Because of this I don't think it is something I have produced from my imagination or as the result of grief.

Give me a break. I thought you were a sensible cat and now you're talking about ghosts?

Spirits are indeed all around us. When a life force is so very strong it does not simply vanish and some remain close to watch over those who they knew in life.

As I said above, still not sure what I think about ghosts, except that every now and then, just as I'm drifting off to sleep I could swear a cat jumps up on my bed and walks up to my face. I have two cats who have passed and I think it's one of them. Or my memory of them that somehow gets triggered as I'm going to sleep.

Lady Ghost is very attracted to this lens and suggested to her ghostwriter that it be lensrolled to her lens. As she speaks, so it shall be.
