Poem - Dancing Leaves

Updated on April 28, 2012

Dancing Leaves

dancing leaves in a grand waltz wind

little vortices of symmetry

sway my way

as I escape the mundane world

along an October path of yellows and browns

I am lost in the hypnotic swirl of colour

the green of the leaf sacrificed

to the march of autumn gold

.

I am getting the too short message with this poem, jeez it's a short poem folks..

@ocfireflies... I think over the longer term it is good to build awareness of a site that the writer owns since social networks can be used to generate direct traffic and interest, poetry is loved everywhere :-)

Now I get it. Very cool. Are you aware of any other sites where poetry is still loved?

@ocfireflies... thanks for vote up.. the photo - if you watch leaves blowing in the wind inevitably gravity brings them back to the ground so they tend to swirl and twirl down low... this photo made me think of leaves as almost an enemy invading, hence the 'reception committee' :-)

..this is from 6 years ago and now HB tends more towards complete articles that have a particular word count, this is the evolution of the medium and I guess poetry perhaps needs special consideration..

      Thanks Drax

Awesome poem. I am not sure I understand the picture even though the pic is definitely provocative. Also, I can relate to the "too short" message, but a poem has a life-the ultimate goal is to say a lot in as few a words as possible-and yet one does seem to get the HP warning if the piece does not meet the HP word count rule-which I am still trying to decipher. Voted UP!

Great imagery and gun-toting women. What's not to like?

Green sacrificed for gold on a white altar cloth -sounds like a nice design for a flag to me. Cheers.

      Beautifully composed.

I, too, love to get lost 'in the hypnotic swirl of colour'

when the green of the leaf is sacrificed to the march of autumn gold.

      Congrats!

thanks very much Eyes... I like short poems to try and capture events that are self contained and anyone reading it can just get it without having to spend half a day wondering what was it about... Drax...
