Poems From The Jersey Shore 5 - Some Short, Some Long
Another week at the Jersey Shore
I don’t know about you
but I’m ready and not ready
to get out and go somewhere.
I‘m ready to see the beach
but I’m still not sure of
being around crowds of people yet.
I'm ready for a good dinner
but not being in a restaurant
This week I decided to do some playing with my words. As you can see by the little poem at the start of this weeks offering. As I was surfing the internet this week I discovered a poem style called Tanka which is a Japanese style of poetry.
The Tanka poem is in a 5-7-5-7-7 syllable progression for a total of 31 syllables per poem. Most of the poems in this article are Tanka poems except for one.
My Cat - A Tanka Poem
I so love my cat
It is so smooth and furry
It has wavy stripes
And two brilliant green eyes
His meow calls out to me
Thank you Meredith for your kind words on my poems
The Sweetheart
Pay attention to your sweetheart
Because your sweetheart is
The most desired woman of all
Now day to day she is the one
That makes the heart feel done
Pay attention to your sweetheart
Feelings, however hard they try
Will always ring true, so true
The feelings make you shiver
They do
Lovers have a sweet love
A Sweet love
Just the thought of your sweetheart
Brings the sweet love
A Sweet love
For Two
Prayer - A Tanka Poem
Don‘t stop the prayer
Words from the heart up to God
Our deepest feelings
Of the needs of those around
Of the desires of the soul
Love - A Tanka Poem
True love once Is found
Will always be a true love
True love makes you shiver?
Does it? It should be the thing
That will make you heart to grow
Walk, Stand, Sit - A Tanka Poem
To walk is to move
Not to sit down or stand still
To walk means to go
To those who need you the most
To those who need you the most
Let’s Dance - A Tanka
Ok each day let’s dance
Hear the music playing now
Move your feet and dance
Come on dance to the music
Grab my hand and we will dance
. A poem begins with delight and ends in wisdom.
— Robert FrostThe Dog - A Tanka Piem
I adore my dog
Very playful and loving
With an exited tail wag
And a content smile as well
The cuddles make me happy
Another Set of Poems
Thank you for spending some time reading my poems again this week. I loved the Tanka poem format. They are both easy and hard to write but they allow you to tell a story only using 31 syllables. Like a.ways if you have any suggestions for poems please add them to the comments below.
