Quotes by writers are often collected

Updated on September 6, 2013

Are You a Quote-Grabber?

Do you collect quotes by famous people, about writers and writing? I do. Yes, I'm a quote-grabber. Don't blame me, blame it on being a writer. Grabbing quotes by writers, quotes on writing, quotes about writing, quotes about books and publishing is in the writer's job description.

What do I do with them? I share them, scribble them in journals, store them in notebooks, attach them to computer screens, and pretty much slap them anywhere there's a flat surface. But I ask you: How many stickies and napkins and ripped pages can one writer collect?

Then one day the light bulb flickered: I'll do a blog, one devoted to quotes--quotes by writers. In today's world, what better way to store them than by doing it digitally? The extra pay-off is that I can share them with others. Writers Quote Daily (WQD) is the result. WQD is a blog that serves as a storehouse and online sharing facility for quotes on writing, quotes about the craft of writing, quotes by famous writers, and quotes on publishing and marketing that I've gathered over the years and continue today.

One of the original quote collectors?

This is something I've struggled with for years. I tried to begin blank books dedicated to quotes but by and large they I simply fall away from the task. I do tend to mark up the margins of books and magazines with my own brand of shorthand notations about quotes I want to highlight for future reference but transferring the quote to "the" place simply didn't happen. My solution has been the digital--and public--one of starting up a blog so I could just store them all there and easily share them with others. What's yours?

This is a terrific idea. You could have done it as a Squidoo lens too.

That reminds me that I have many librarian quotes that I've been hoarding. Maybe I'll make them into a lens. Thanks for the inspiration!
