The search for solace

Updated on November 17, 2011

Solace we all seek

In a world where good is bad and wrong is often seen as right, the search for solace is often a difficult task at best.

Call it peace, tranquility or solace, in some way we all seek and desire it in our lives and we often seek various avenues to find it.

In an attempt at a different genre and this writer seeking his own solace, my new poem, “Solace” follows:

The wind blowing

A misty sky

Rain drenched skin

Solace he seeks to find

Thunder sounds

Lightning consumes a darkened sky

The ground shakes

Solace he seeks to find

Water rises

Nothing is dry

His eyes they cry

The hurt, the pain

Destruction is every where

Solace he seeks to find

A sudden shining light

Reflections of a cross upon a hill

An open empty tomb

He gazes upward towards a heavenly sky

Solace at last he finds

Hi Dr. Lee--this is the first of your works that I have read--sonnetwolf is right--a poet lives in you--I enjoyed this--the search for absolution, for solace--is a theme in my heart and in some of my work--thank you!

Dr. Lee, a Poet lives inside you. Your words sear through our skin, our mind, make us think. I love when writing does that. The words seem to come to life off the Page. Yes, in this day and age, Solace is hard to find. We look under the rug; we look beneath the car, in the garden, even in a dumpster. Where is it? Well, my belief is that first we must find solace within ourselves before we can recognize it on the outside. Peace comes from within, it is then we will be receptive to the world around us offering us what it may. If we are open to positivity, if we seek tranquility, we will gravitate towards those forces in our life, almost like a magnet, to find it. It is there, in the leaves, in the wind, in a animal's soulful eyes, in a song, in a Poem such as yours which filled me with an inner peace. It is all around us but in our busy hectic lives, we overlook it. Again, it has to start with us, from the inside, and work its way out. When you accept yourself, you accept the world around you. Listen to the Earth, for it speaks to us. We must be still. In that stillness is peace.
