Set Me Free

Updated on July 25, 2008

As I watched the loose discarded paper being moved by the wind

It appeared to have no control , just landing wherever the wind blew it

First I watched it land in a bed of white flowers

It just laid there so still and content

Then the wind picked it up again and blew it into the gutter

Filled with dried leaves and moisture from the rains

Oh dear, I thought . Now what will it do?

It laid there still as could be waiting, waiting

For the next breath of wind

As a car drove past the force from the tires tumbled it over and over

And rushed it right into the road ,as a huge truck

Passed by and ran over it. Leaving with a terrible black scar

It laid there and laid there stuck to the wet road

Oh dear, oh my--should it really end in such a place?

When it could have flown into a better space

An open window where a child plays..a barn door where the animals lay

Or high...higher into the sky as a butterfly might

A dream come true !

I had to leave ..the bank teller gave me my receipt.....never to know

Oh Set Me Free

Oh you little sweetie...Thanks....Well maybe it's just my simple boring .....nothingness...that makes me connect with a loose discarded piece of paper flying around.... un-wanted...uncared for..just wanting to fly free anywhere..anytime....Like now. G-Ma :o) hugs

Some people seem to have the gift of taking the mundane and making something beautiful out of it. That's what you've done with this poem, and it's simply amazing!

Sally.... my sweetie...Isn't it so true...we are no more then a piece of discarded paper??? I hope not..but everything has it's place and there is a place for everything....hopefully not in the streets...or stuck to nothingness, or alone in this world, but flying high and soaring to our freedom with the Angels forever....I guess Easter had it's effect on me.  Thank You for the comment dear one...G-Ma "o) hugs and prayers

What if I am that piece of paper? Look at the truth I hold, and how I have been stuck to the wet road. I am a simple statement. But I tell a history. And now I am obliterated.

      Well done G-Ma.

I must be going crazy, I have seen the same piece of paper.

      It would not say die.

      Just kept on going.

I was certainly glad it was not mine. I would never have caught it.

Well C.S I think it is crazy too...but when you are searching for 'yourself' I guess you see many reason's to be Thankful for what you have. I really saw that and it made me think about writing about it. and I was in the drive up bank deposit spot.We get so into ourselves we forget about the one's less fortunate...Not that a piece of "Wendy's Burger's wrappers" floating around is important. I am weird..But you did make a comment hee hee and Thanks my dear G-Ma :o) hugs

Eileen...Thank You too for noticing my hub. and I too love to watch people and try to figure them out. I saw this car sitting on the side of the road and a man walking away (I thought) so I turned around and asked of he needed a ride, if he was having trouble.. He said " no I am taking my dailey walk" but Thank you anyway. I was wrong.....the car was already sitting there when he went had 2 people in it tho. sooo you just never know..agreed? G-Ma :o) hugs Happy Easter to you both

Well that sure is something different to write about, good that you can sit and watch things like that. I dont mean that as awful. I love to sit on a bus stop and just look around me. Its amazing the things that you notice, and the expressions on peoples faces as they walk past is fascinating.

I like that you entertain yourself doing the mundane bank routine with a piece of discarded paper. I think it is a little crazy, but even better, that you are writing about it! This is great. See it takes one to know one. I love this.
