Sexy Romance Short Stories

Updated on May 17, 2012

Steamy Romances Become More Popular

With the success of the erotic romance series by EL James - 50 Shades of Grey, 50 Shades Darker and 50 Shades Freed - it seems that sexy romances are becoming more and more popular.

In fact most romance writers will tell you that since the release of the James's books, their stories have also shown a bump in sales.

So much so that when you check out Google Trends (image below) you'll see that over the past twelve months the search term has been on the slow decline, but with the release of the trilogy it has now begun to climb again.

What do you read AFTER 50 Shades of Grey?

If there is one genre that fits short stories best, it would have to be the sexy romance. While they can't compare to a full length novel in terms of plot and characterisation - what they can do is condense the story down so that it only contains the good bits (and I don't been just the sex either). You can get a snap shot of the characters world and their experiences without any fluff. It's straight to the action of the story (no pun intended).

There are actually thousands of different short stories on Amazon and other e-retailers due to the explosion of self publishing - and while not every story will be good - generally there should be a story out there to suit everyone's level of taste for romance from the vanilla to the explicit (although mostly in between).

So if you've finished with the 50 Shades trilogy, what do you read next?

So how much should you pay for a good sexy romance?

Obviously there are differing levels of quality when it comes to different romance stories.

Generally though - here are my thoughts on price (you can leave your own thoughts in the guest module at the bottom of this lens if you like).

Word count < 5000 = 0.99 cents

Word count 5000 - 10000 = $1.99

Word count 10000 - 20000 = $2.99

Word count 20000 - 30000 = $3.99

Word count > 30000 = $4.99 and above

I realise that not everyone will agree with this (customers want to pay less, author's want to earn more) but I think that's a fair price for both parties.

Currently my Erotic Fiction books are priced at 99c. They are between 8,000 and 14,000 words.

The feedback I get at the moment is that readers want longer stories rather than the shorts.
