Why refer to Himself as 'the son of man'?

Scriptures declare that Jesus was the Son of God, the Messiah, the Christ, the promised one, God with us, and many other names referring to His Deity. There is no doubt in my mind about He being the word made flesh and that He came to show us the Father, for if you have seen Him you have seen the Father is what He told Phillip.

But to look at who He was from another angle it reveals an also undeniable and necessary truth of what He really did and why He is our Gods 'son of man'.

There are more than eighty times in the New Testament in which Jesus refers to himself as the son of man. In a lot of these references, he was talking about after His ascension into the heavens. I don't think He was just being humble. The fact that He was the son of man has revolutionary impact concerning His life on earth, His death, and yet still being called the son of man after His resurrection.

We need to understand what this son of man did and why his appearing in the heavens is so important to the plan of God for planet earth.

The life of Jesus, this 'son of man' marked in the heavens for the first time that a man could live and die perfectly whole and sinless. The heavens now permanently carry a 'son of man' in them. For the first time God could respond to a man on earth by relationship alone, with no need for mercy. Jesus never needed the Fathers mercy because He never transgressed against His Father.

The right of a son of God in the body of a son of man. That same right He has given to us. It is the righteousness of the 'son of God'.

The sign of the "Son of Man'

You know in the comic character Batman, His symbol was shot up in the sky over Gotham City. This symbol brought hope to the common man and struck fear in the hearts of the villains.

The same is true of this 'son of man' appearing in the heavens Mat. 24:30. No other man has had the right to occupy the heavens than Jesus. No other has had the right of innocence. The accuser can not separate this man from the Father. The first and only man who was able to open the seal in the book of revelation because He overcame everthing that was thrown at Him while on earth. Rev 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

He became the corner stone of right relationship planted once again in the earth, but reaching through the heavens to the very heart of God.
