Learning to Fly

Updated on February 22, 2011

I was watching the sky

My eyes fell on a plane

For a moment i recalled

The fear, guilt, and shame

I pictured myself

Flying far above

The cares of this planet

And shattered love

I dreamt of reality

Meeting my dreams

Truth, freedom, peace

Beyond humanity's means

I know what I'm feeling

Feels real to me

I know what I long for

Is just to be free

Free of the torment

To escape my own cage

To live, to breathe, to bask

Ignoring the corrosion of age

What once was so new

So intense, so true

Has faded to dust

My joys remain few

I dare you to dream

Pushing beyond all you know

You receive what you give

And you reap what you sow

Falling through space

Through time, through love

But love turns to ashes

When push comes to shove

There are things that I miss

Passed into abyss

Swallowed by darkness

Sealed with a kiss

I will rise from my knees

Refusing to die

My wings will reform

I will learn how to fly

Benwritings i have been through your hubs lately....your writing has such an inner feeling....the words are so powerful...they touch, hit, slide or cajole the heart..whatever way you take it they impact the reader. and took me right there with you taking that flight, despite the weight of the strong emotions resting in our hearts. May God directs the power of your words to heal the burning hearts!

      You Inspired me! :)

Beautiful. This brings back all sorts of things I didn't think I would feel again. I can feel you coaxing me from my past and back into the present...really amazing and your writing is my favorite, I can't stop reading it!

you are truly an amazing poet. as I read this, a longing arose in me, to close my eyes and soar with the broken dreams and unfulfilled wishes of humanity. i wish i could write as well as you. Would you teach me to fly? Haha. ^w^/ Fantastic.

I dreamt I could fly when a child - i was great to just run and take off and rise above the heads of the kidnappers and up above the trees and look down from the loftiness of the air!

I like this, dark as it is. It is good.
