Updated on October 8, 2014

His books you will hear more about!

Stieg Larsson was born 1954 and was a Swedish writer and journalist. Prior to his sudden death of a heart attack in November 2004 he finished three detective novels in his trilogy "The Millenium-series" which were published posthumously; "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest". Millenium comes from the name of a news paper that the main caracter is working for.Altogether, his trilogy has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide (summer of 2009), and he was the second bestselling author in the world 2008.Daniel Craig will star in Dragon Tattoo remakeSony confirmed the rumors, the hopeful/wishful fan speculation, and made it official. Sort of. They're hoping Daniel Craig will star in the Hollywood remake of the superb Swedish thriller The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's due out Dec. of 2011.David Fincher's directing it. Who will play the title role, that of the sexually abused, rough-and-ready bisexual computer hacker/security expert who helps Craig's disgraced reporter with his investigation into a murder mystery - the American actress Rooney Mara

Eva Gabrielsson

Eva Gabrielsson, was Stieg Larssons partner for 32 years. She has been closely involved in the writing about the Millennium books. She says: These books are a spin-off of our lives!Eva never married Stieg Larsson of security reasons. The Nazi extremists were a threat since he founded the anti racist paper Expo 1995 and he was giving lectures and was and expert on the subject. There are rumors that there might be a fouth book somewhere.......We have to wait and see what happens.Eva Gabrielsson has written a book that will be published soon: There are things I want you to know "Milennium, Stieg and I"

The girl with the Dragon Tattoo - number 1 in the triology

Harriet Vanger disappeared 40 years ago off the secluded island owned and inhabited by the powerful Vanger family. There was no corpse, no witnesses, no evidence. But her uncle, Henrik, is convinced that she was murdered by someone from her own deeply dysfunctional Vanger clan. Disgraced journalist Mikael Blomqvist is hired to investigate.

David Fincher Eyes Dragon Tattoo

Rooney Mara for Lisbeth Salander

The books are still flying out of the bookstores, and the Swedish film trilogy has just begun its UK release. But lest we forget, Stieg Larsson's Millennium trilogy of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest, has also caught Hollywood's attention. After some difficult rights negotiations with the still-in-flux Larsson estate, Sony inked a deal for the English-language versions late last year, with Scott Rudin producing and Steve Zaillian having a crack at the first screenplay. And now, according to NY Magazine's Vulture, David Fincher is circling the project. Having delighted the Sony brass with his Facebook founders story The Social Network, it sounds as if Dragon Tattoo is his for the asking. The heroine role of snarky Asperger's hacker genius Lisbeth Salander will be played by Rooney Mara!

Stieg Larsson - who is he?

And who is Lisbeth Salander really?Michael Nykvist a very skilled actor!

Lisbeth Salander played by Noomi Rapace

Noomi Rapace is so extraordinary good in the roll as Lisbet Salander. One US criticer says: Do NOT try to find another actress - "Make her a Swede, and simply cast Noomi Rapace."

Noomi Rapace will play in the next ALIEN movie

Noomi Rapace gets the leading role when Ridley Scott continues the Alien-mythology!Looks like we finally have something cooking on the 'Alien' prequel front (though it's no longer a prequel). Deadline tells us that Noomi Rapace is now locked into the role of Elizabeth Shaw, while Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are circling the film's other major female role, Vickers. Fox claims the other roles will be cast soon.As far as story goes, we still don't know exactly what Ridley Scott has planned. We know that John Spaihts wrote the initial draft, and that Damon Lindelof was then brought in to work with Scott on re-writing that and expanding upon it. Says Lindelof, "In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley's vision was for this movie. It's daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects. When I sat in a movie theater as a kid, feet raised off the floor for fear that something might grab my ankles, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination I would one day get to collaborate with the man responsible for it. Working alongside him has been nothing short of a dream come true."

What a phenomenon this trilogy has been. It's such a shame Stieg Larsson did not live to experience the enormous success of his books. I appreciate your review of Larsson's background and his body of work. Thank you!

I have not had the opportunity to read any of these but have a couple of friends who absolutely rave about the series. Guess I better get on the ball and check them out.

I've read the first two books, but I didn't love the movie. Hoping David Fincher will improve things.

I've read all three books of the trilogy, and have seen the first movie and thought it was very well done. I like the characters! I was surprised to hear that Hollywood wants to do a movie of "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo".

Just finished reading the 2 books in the trilogy and loved it so much. I can`t wait to read the third one. Larsson engaged me with his characters whom I found fascinating.

Sound like great books (and movies). Too bad he died so soon, unfortunate that he didn't see his success and that we couldn't enjoy more of his work.

Love this lens. It makes me want to read the books!
