It lay there on the cold ground

panting

wide eyed and barely alive

it looked at me

with a sense of knowing

it wanted me to help him

but he was so broken

I was afraid I might hurt him

it looked me in the eyes

and we became friends

I heard the crunch

when I picked him up

but I couldn't just let him lie there

couldn't let him die there

all alone

afraid it was too late

so all I could do

was wash him with my tears

gently I whispered into his ears

said everything was going to be okay

and then I started singing

don't know why

but hush little baby came to mind

then came the scream

as I looked down
saw this gaping hole in my chest

and in my hands

my heart

Thank you for this. Today must be chill day on hubpages. This is the 5th Hub so far. Good job. Keep up the creativity.

Mhatter... thanks so very much... Yes, I've noticed that myself, that sometimes the same mood strikes many artists at the same time... kinda weird, but cool :)

Amazing and heart wrenching poetry. Your words poetically sad and tell it all so well. Passing this on.
