The Cat, The Bat and The Burglar - a delightful cautionary tale

Last Christmas, one of my favorite presents was the delightful tale of The Cat, the Bat and the Burglar. It is an adventure book presented in a very original way.

The tale is told in pictures and verse, and works on several levels so, I'm sure, it will be loved by readers of all ages. It has a beautifully hand written script, with full color illustrations by the author. The illuminated calligraphy really adds to the drama of this cautionary tale.

Colin Mason is author, calligrapher and illustrator of The Cat the Bat and the Burglar. A talented artist, he drew his inspiration from Victorian cautionary rhymes and the illuminated manuscripts of medieval monks to produce an adorable adventure. Colin began the tale with a description of Stella the bat and Walter the cat and their peaceful existence in an abandoned church, with its overgrown churchyard. Their lives are disrupted when a burglar, on the run from the police, came into the church looking for a place to hide his swag. His bag of ill-gotten gains even has the word "swag" written on it. Poor Walter is captured by the burglar who wraps him in a stripey jumper, and shuts him in a coffin in the crypt!

I have the printed version of The Cat the Bat and the Burglar, and loved reading it cover to cover in one sitting. It would make an ideal gift for kids aged from 6 to 106, or maybe even older! I thoroughly recommend it to parents... to read with or without a child!

To find out what happens to the burglar, the actions of Aldred the wise old owl and his friend the gargoyle, and how Walter escapes from the crypt, you'll have to read the book. I don't want to spoil the ending for you!

Whether you go for the Kindle version or the printed version, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

I would love to be able to write in such a beautiful way. Colin Mason's illuminated manuscript really adds to the feel of the story.

@ecogranny: It has enough suspense to hold the attention of readers, young or old, but isn't too scary for the youngsters!
