WHY DID I WRITE THIS CHILDREN'S BOOK?
To be honest, I didn't write The Leopard and the Mouse with the desire to become a rich and famous author (although that would be nice!). I wrote this beautifully illustrated book because all stories carry with them the power to affect lives.
In a way the book wrote itself. It came from my beliefs that kindness, sharing and helping others, feels good.
I admit that when the photos of the real-life leopard and mouse encounter arrived in my email, I was entranced. Here was a gentle giant and a tiny, fearless creature! It was a story waiting to be written, one that would enchant children everywhere, encouraging them to accept differences, think before acting, and look for beauty inside.
Childhood experiences and life as a mother and grandma have taught me how wonderful imagination is. From toddler to teenager, it was my own imagination that took me to better places than the reality in which I found myself.
I believe this story will find its way into the hearts of all the children and adults who read it and the children will absorb the helpful messages about positive social behavior, thinking and self-awareness. It is my hope that they will be inspired to overcome fear and connect with their own strong, calm energy.
Although it is written for children ages 4 - 8, I know this charming story will inspire children of all ages and everyone will just love the beautiful illustrations by artist, Jan Stamm.
The Leopard and The Mouse - A Description of the Story
by Marilyn Briant
Imagine for a moment that you are a very hungry mouse and you happen to find some food. Having just put a small piece of meat into your mouth, you are suddenly staring at the front legs of a giant creature. This is the situation in which Thomas finds himself one sunny day. He has every reason to be fearful, but this is a mouse who feels he can trust his inner knowing. This is a mouse who believes he will find all that he needs. This is a mouse who is not afraid to be open to all life has to offer.
And what about the owner of the giant legs? She is a huge and beautiful leopard. She has never seen a mouse before and she certainly has never seen one eating her dinner. What develops from this chance encounter is not what you might think. Sasha the leopard is a strong and powerful animal. She understands that she has a choice about what to do. She can help or hurt the tiny mouse. Is Thomas in danger, or will he discover that what he believes really comes true?
The Children Love The Leopard and The Mouse!
All authors need to promote their own books. I have set up and done readings/book signings in schools, both in England and the USA. I also attend library and other events whenever possible. I give talks about writing the book and include a reading. I take books with me whenever I travel and In October, 2012 I donated a copy of The Leopard and The Mouse to the library of a children's school in an Orphanage in Cambodia. As you can see from the photo, the children seemed to love the story!

About the Author - Marilyn Briant
In my working life, I was a Training Manager responsible for writing and instructing training programs for JPMorgan Chase. I was lucky enough to be able to run and participate a volunteer mentor program in New York City. It was this program, involving weekly mentoring sessions to promote positive self-esteem and assist with learning needs, for selected children at a public school in Manhattan, which helped me learn how much good social skills matter
After I moved to Williamsburg, VA I joined Big Brothers, Big Sisters, so I could continue one-on-one mentoring sessions with children in a local school.
My goal is to inspire positive social behavior, thinking and self-awareness in children.
