the old gods walk with me

Updated on July 24, 2014

the old gods walk with me
I think
I hear the AllFather whispering in my ear
words of wisdom, sacrifice -- of battles chosen shrewdly
he twists on barren Yggsdrasil, branches aching toward
dead sky
and cowering beneath his gimlet stare, I know
oh I know

the old gods walk with me
I think
I hear the trickster laughing now
taunting me to new and greater heights of cruelty
my Loki is all fire-cold and mischief quiet now
imprisoned as he is
oh, I would hold the bowl and staunch the venom flow
and Signe be.

the old gods walk with me
I think
I hear the Valkyrie song of immortality
clarion cry of beauty -- to battle, to victory
they sing of dreams that never were, never shall
oh never, never
should have been – yet still I dream
I dream

the old gods walk with me
I think
I hear the spindle clack with soft laugh follows
a glint of shears gold in velvet light, measuring
life lines in a tapestry of wishes
spinning life in threadlength long or spare ‘til one day
a SNIP
and end.

This is absolutely lovely! Your wording, your cadence, all right on! Great job!
