the red

Updated on June 19, 2013

everything was real

that's how it used to be

when we would dance without thinking

joke without winking

and kiss

without touching

everything was alive

blooming with color

it was all moving forward

and we swam with the screams

you were the red

the red in everything

you were the red in my rose

and your thorns

they cut

and they kissed

it was all magical

where we created another world

made a ship and found

our hearts as sunken treasure

the breeze tapped our shoulders

the living never said good night

everything was the perfect day

every day

until one day

the flowers lost their scent

and the soft petals of your fingertips

became scratches in my back

scratches in my voice

until the insides of my heart

have become dry

crumbly and brittle

where weeping and bruising

give way to violent breathing

a rainforest destroyed by your softly killing

everything is wilted

dead

it's all standing still

the air has no touch

the smells are artificial

and no flavor can quench

this place

is empty of red

the blooms have become dry

the songs have all died

the smoke is black

the ashes are white

the sun flew away with your love

it's all twilight

there is no dusk or dawn
it's everything

alone

nothing is real

when the color red

flies away into the sun

and all you are left holding

is a paper rose

burning

Ohhhh such a painful journey of love...from fresh red in roses to a dry flower. The emotion is spread in every word here. Quite touchy a poem so far! Keep up the good work. Votes up and sharing across.

I love using my time here and my legacy too , lol, in letting loose , creatively speaking, and also promoting other writers/artists/poets and hopefully that will be my hub epitaph - so please check out another fairly new hubber - S MONAGHAN119 - I have sent him your way too.

I am enjoying and loving your poetry light, fluffy or not. There are only few men who could write and express their emotions like you do. The ink is so alive. As I always say, your words are very effective and powerful. Kudos :)

.....well great minds think alike Sir Eric because I just wrote 'a red one' too - lol.

Well I absolutely adore this piece and it would even make Edgar Allan Poe blush with all of the brooding, despair, poetic gloom and poetic doom - but ya gotta love a man who sticks to his bloody guns and just damn well writes what he pleases - and when it's as brilliant as this - I just say - full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes ...

Sending you warm wishes on a damn cold night - lake erie time 9:35pm

thank you blaise.... Love the comment, appreciate that very much... alot of my writings tend to be more emotional than anything... so Thank You again for Feeling the ink... wish I could post something more light and fluffy... but you know how it goes :) sometimes the writers hand tends to keep dipping into the same color ink

Oh, this is such a painful read! I hope this isn't something you personally experienced. However, love and losing love remind us of how real we are... how vulnerable we are...how easily hurt we are. Well written and so very real...voted up and beautiful
