the ghost of Romeo

Updated on June 19, 2013

Cupid came calling today

but I mistook him for the demon of yesterday

his magical arrows reflected and broken

from a heart stronger than steel

piercing my outer flesh

a warm trickling I could feel

pooling at my own two feet

finally had enough

pulling my sword from its sheath

I cut him in half

buried him where he lay

guess there will be no more Valentines day

everyone will have to find love

the old fashioned way

the ghost of Romeo spoke to me today

he crept near my ear

and whispered something dear

and sweet to say

tried to find a way

to translate them through my own two lips

but they fell as dust upon the ground

as colorless autumn leaves

without a sound

felt like a fool

so my shadow took revenge

pulled out a shadowy axe

and severed his head

sending him back to Juliet

back to the dead

Venus, the goddess of Love came to me today

upon my shoulder she lay

her soft braids against my chest

her soft hands touching my cheek

her soft eyes making me weak

her soft body a perfect physique

her soft voice singing songs

of classical Greek

but I was afraid

thought she might have been Medusa

hidden behind beauty's mystique

so I took her soft braids

and turned her soft voice to hard screams

her eyes, now softer with death

the Grim Reaper came at midnight

he seemed a bit timid

not like he's portrayed

he was determined though

for some friends he did bring

Fate and Destiny were there by his side

out in the open, with nowhere to hide

I fell upon my knees

with the sins of today hanging around my neck

then a laugh of satisfaction

burst from lungs of dark

bringing forth ungodly rage

as the scythe came down

I stared Death in the eyes

stopping the blade in mid swing

I violently jerked it out of his grip

then killed all three

with my own bare hands

set them all on fire

and blew their ashes

into the wind

Today, no one will die

but tomorrow

no one will love

feeling now

like I should apologize to the world

for what I have done

Forgive me

I didn't know my own strength

This is a very dark and entertaining poem. I do not really like poetry, but you have given me a reason to read it again. It almost has an Edgar Allan Poe kinda feel to it. I was deeply engaged int he peom to the point where it distracted me from life until I finished. You have won a follower today. I will share this will my networks.

Spruce it up a bit to make it more inviting to read. I almost skipped over it until I saw your name.

The fear of love and to be loved...that's how I see this. At least I didn't cry reading this one, Wolf. Hehe :)

Powerful and so creative. I loved it.

This was great! I could see a comic called "The Swinging Avenger" and he would be a tortured soul who trusted no one! I especially love the part where you say" Today, no one will die but tomorrow no one will love" That is very powerful and as for apologizing to the world, no need for that since the world never apologizes to us. We are all responsible for our own actions.... well written my new friend!
