The Hatred Was Real

Updated on April 8, 2012

The Darkness

This is day 6 of April celebrating National Poetry Month.

The darkness was there

Didn’t seem to go away

The hatred was real

Daylight was nowhere in sight

It had been weeks

You see

Everyone was craving

Some of the sun

There was much hysteria much crying

And no love

Love seemed to fly out the

Love was nowhere in site

No love songs

No laughter

No hearts

Everyone just knew

They knew best

That it would be all right

The daylight would be back

The fighting would quit

No one knew who to trust

But for those who believe

And whose heart is true

For there is a

Hope that you can find

For those who search

But until then

The darkness

Took over their lives

The last vow carried the most serious punishment if broken. It was horrible. Their Lovers were taken away and then whipped to death in front of their eyes. Then they would be taken to the field of the dammed, where they would be placed in a small stone room below in the ground. They would be given a loaf of bread and an oil lamp and then buried alive. Somehow after months it seemed like she had lost all track of time, she had escaped and how she has lived through all of that she will never know.

But here she is alone and the darkness had over taken everything.

As a child she remembered her mother telling her about a God that loved her that sent His Son to save them, He had even died for her and everyone. But she had never listened, Oh how she wished she had listened.

When she felt like she could take no more she knelt and crying great sobs asked her God to save her, to help her to take her right now, to do with her what He will.

There was light

It shined so bright

She was amazed

There was Love

In the clouds

All could see

The laughter came back

Happiness was there to stay

The sacrifice for our sins

Was standing as a Lamb

No love withheld

Love leading the way!

Such a powerful poem, finding that small glimmer of hope in the darkest times of fear is the hardest thing any human being will have to overcome. Thank you for sharing your wonderful poem.

This is truly one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read. About Christ's salvation, and God's love for us. I almost cried. Voting up means hardly anything when compared to this poem, but I did that anyway. Please don't stop writing Debbie, your poems but life in peoples hearts.
