Why The Secret may still be a good idea

Updated on January 12, 2013

A few years ago a friend of mine began talking about The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and I became curious about it. What was it all about and did it really work? I was given the book that Christmas and it made for an interesting read.

The Secret has 3 main points and they are:

Ask

Believe

Receive

Simple but effective there is a similarity between that message and the Bible which has numerous versions saying the same things

Matthew 21:22 states:

And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Mark 11:24

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

It is because of that similarity that I felt that this could work.

The Secret helps you become more aware

The Secret does one thing very well it makes you aware of what you are feeling and it suggests ideas to turn a negative mood into a more positive mood.

Think of a song that you like and that will trigger a pleasant feeling

Use Memory shifters to change a mood by thinking of something that makes you happy:

Your family and the good memories you have of them.

Your favorite book or movie etc.

In the book you find out that negative thoughts bring about more negative things in your life while positive thoughts bring more things positive into your life.

The Secret helps you set your goals

The Secret also makes you write out your goals and from that you get the visual you need to start making things happen. It gets your desires out there and once you have set your mind to what you want to achieve it gets you one step closer to your goal.

I have made out of a list of goals two different times and only one of my goals each time did not materialize just yet. I didn’t set impossible goals, but as you become more aware of how The Secret works the skies the limit.

The Secret has it flaws

In some parts of the book I disagree with The Secret. It makes it seem that at times if something in life happens to you like a car accident that you in some way attracted it to you. I don’t believe that anyone would want to have that happen or anything that would cause physical harm.

There is also a part of the book that wants you to act as if you have achieved what you wanted. To spend as though you had the money it is those parts of the book that are a little farfetched for me.

I also believe it is impossible to have positive thoughts 24/7. We are humans and feel emotions. If we are going through a bad time it is very hard to feel positive thoughts. If The Secret fails their answer is that we didn’t keep our positive energy going and it makes us feel like we weren’t trying hard enough to make things happen.

It also makes it seem that those that were involved in natural disasters had it coming to them which is nonsense. It also says to stay away from negative people or other things that have negative thoughts. That is impossible because there is always going to be some negative in the world and we can’t live in denial about it.

Some Great Lines from The Secret

“The Simplest way for me to look at the law of attraction is if I think of myself as a magnet, and I know that a magnet will attract to it.” John Assaraf

“Your current thoughts are creating your future life. What you think about the most or focus on the most will appear as your life.”

“Change the frequency.” This is a line that is used when you feel your energy shifting from positive to negative.

“Our job is not to figure out the how. The how will show up out of a commitment and belief in the what.”

In Summary:

The Secret is a great book to help you analyze just what goals you want to make for yourself.

It will help you to become more aware of your feelings and you will find that positive feelings do indeed bring more good things into your life.

The Secret is a book of faith in yourself, in a great power and a belief that God, or as the book says, the universe, only wants the best for us and if we ask will indeed receive.

It is a book that will have you put on paper just what you wish to achieve and the accomplishment you will feel when you have met those goals will make it worthwhile.

The Secret is a book that will get you focused and more in tune with your feelings and the feelings of those around us. It is a book that emphasizes the positive and to help you figure out your goals and how to achieve them. I am not a fanatic about The Secret, but It did help me achieve some goals I set for myself and that merits it being a book to have a look at for your own goals.
