they are only words

Updated on September 25, 2012
you are in control of your own happiness.
you are in control of your own happiness. | Source

Some folks find it in a bottle, in music or reading a book.

Others find it in companionship, food or getting someone to look.

while I try not to judge, how the other half live, I wonder sometimes why they never give

even a word.

Just a word, you may wonder how strange it may seem

but a word has the power to change almost anything.

I've seen words ruin marriages, make people lose hope

I've seen a kind word uplift the broken and make a heart fully float.

its all in how we think, that is the key

that unlocks the door, so we all may see

that while words are powerful so is your mind

if you put your mind to it, you'll understand this rhyme

this is really about happiness, something we all deserve

but most people don't get it, isn't that so absurd

we are all too busy thinking about words

when it only takes a second to to kick them to the curb

If you choose to be happy, then happy you will be

nothing can stop it,except maybe a disease

if someone say you are ugly and you won't amount to much

just remember, it only words and your heart cannot be touched.

see this truly has a meaning,if you will stop and truly think

only you can make you happy, when words stink.

Did you understand this poem?

Only you can make you truly happy

Have you ever stopped to think that the only person in the world who can make you truly happy is you,I know many factors determine a person's level of happiness but if you stop and think about it ,you are in control of your happiness 100%.

No matter how bad any situation you are in,it could be worse. Happiness is a choice,it is a state of mind and true happiness is something that most people never obtain.

Make it your goal to be happy.

Learn to appreciate what you have, and change the way you think and you can achieve happiness.

    Hi Manthy

Being bullied growing up, I am not a stranger to words that stink.

By choosing to be happy and ignoring the hurtful words, we take away the power from the bully.

    Voted up and away

    Have a good day. :)

I understood your poem very well. Love the message on words. I have talked with my speech students on how just one word can make the difference. One word has persuaded people to do unthinkable things, meet challenges, and change their lives. Wonderfully said. Blessings.

I loved this. We can only make ourself happy.. If we listen to the down-beat of an old worn out drum. We miss the new beat that talks to our heart. And words are only words, they either lift you or bring you down. Beautiful.. thank you..

This is your first poem! Excellent indeed. Those that attempt to harm one by mere words, are the ones we should just step back from, but in His word, He does tell us that the tongue, as small as it is, can either bring life or death. So words can do real harm, especially in a small child hearing such words over and over again. Once you know who you are in Christ, mere words do not have any affect, as you know you are made in His image. Voted Way Up God bless you. In His Love, Faith Reaper

I hope I have not commented twice, as the first time it just went away.

What a great poem..! I esp loved the lines

"If you choose to be happy, then happy you will be

nothing can stop it,except maybe a disease".

You are right we are the only one's who can control our happiness but sadly most of the time we don't realise it.

Sharing this beautiful poem and voting way up!

    Have a nice day :)
