Top Ten Books on Chemistry for Kids

Children learn best when they are having fun - I know I did.

Chemistry, like all science subjects, can seem quite daunting to many of us. But it doesn't need to be like this. With clear explanations and an injection of fun, science can be a subject that holds no fears for those about to start their own exploration of the world around us.

I have selected these books as my favourite Top 10 Chemistry Books for Kids , for their content and unique methods of putting across to their young reader what Chemistry is all about. These Chemistry books, introduce the subject in terms that children can understand.

The chemistry books highlighted in this lense, will I believe, allow kids of all ages to explore the incredible world of chemistry in a fun, informative and interactive way.

Chemistry helps us to better understand the world around us. We tend to forget that this science provides an explanation for all of those everyday things that we take for granted such as why does soap work and why do some washing powders work better in warm water.

What is Chemistry?

Well, a dictionary would briefly describe Chemistry as being - The science that systematically studies the composition, properties and activity of organic and non organic substances. - Quite a statement, but what does it mean? I think it is best described as The study of Matter. Matter being all that stuff that everything is made of.

Did you know that Chemistry and Physics share a common definition and that this is "the study of matter and energy and the interactions between them." This is because both Chemistry and Physics are specializations of physical science. The difference between them is that Chemistry focusses on the properties of substances and the interactions between different types of matter, while Physics tends to focus more on the atom and the subatomic realm. But they are really two sides of the same coin.

I'll have to pass this on to my son. His 12 year old son is taking chemistry and is pretty bored with it. Maybe some of these books would help if he and his Dad worked on them together.

@Linda BookLady: I always think that the earlier a child learns about chemistry the better, and if this can be made fun - then all the better.

Very interesting... if children get a good grasp of chemistry they'll find it a lot easier to pass when they get to college.
